Hi, I’m Claire aka Clara Luna the designer and maker behind the colourful shop, The Rainbow Room.
Born in England in the heat wave of 1976, I was destined to love the sunshine. I had a wonderful childhood, growing up in a quaint village with family nearby. My ‘Nana’ was a huge inspiration to me, she painted beautiful paintings, cooked great food and had a beautiful garden full of bright flowers and vegetables. She ran her own business designing lampshades and selling craft supplies. I definitely inherited her genes, my creativity and entrepreneurship emerged early in life, I remember creating my own little ‘business’ making and trying to sell Fimo figures.
After starting my A levels, I decided school wasn’t the right place for me, and headed to Art college instead. I enjoyed two years working with lots of different mediums and the rainbows had definitely already become a big part of my work.
Graduating from De Montfort University in 1997 with a BA in Fashion & Textile Design, I honed my skills specialising in surface decoration. Since then I have worked as a Hosiery Designer, an Interior Designer and produced mosaics. With an interest in natural skincare products, I ran my own soap company ‘Provided by Nature’ producing handmade soaps for a number of years. Then I think serendipity stepped in when I found a You Tube tutorial for felted soaps, I gathered a few supplies and started wrapping my handmade soaps in colourful wool – I was hooked! I attended a feltmaking course with a local artist in Mid Wales where I was living at the time, and well, the feltmaking journey began.

I’m not sure how or when rainbows sneaked into my life, but when I look back at my work and various trinkets I have collected over the years there is an abundance of rainbowness! However in 2005 things stepped up a level when my mum came up with an idea. I’ll never forget her saying “You should have a shop and call it The Rainbow Room” And so I did (first time I did as I was told too)
When my mum passed away suddenly after a long battle with cancer, I felt the real magic of rainbows. At her funeral the sky was filled with a huge rainbow and then they kept coming on special occasions and at times of confusion or worry they were there and would fill me with a sense of hope and happiness.
That feeling is what I hope to give people through my work because I really believe rainbows can make a real difference and a kaleidoscope of colours will keep you on top of the world.

After a wonderful road trip exploring Europe, we found Ibiza. I was drawn to this magical island and its worldly mix of people, glorious beaches, intriguing boutiques full of treasures and the constant buzz of life. Making rainbows, along with other colourful creations in Ibiza I feel the happiest I’ve ever been. Living on a beautiful and inspiring island in the Mediterranean is the perfect place to be creative.

I opened my Etsy shop in 2008. Instantly I knew Etsy was the ideal place for me to sell my work online so I just jumped in and started listing my new colourful creations. Looking back at some of my first products, I know I have come a long way in the last five years.
It’s great to be a part of a supportive, creative network of people doing what they love, and I mustn’t forget….. it’s perfect for shopping!

I absolutely love my job, I love creating and producing something from scratch, exploring new design ideas and working on different product lines. I am always inspired by nature, rainbows (of course) spectacular sunsets and the colours of the sea to name but a few. I adore my collections of colourful wools, fabrics, yarns, buttons and beads, there’s never a dull moment in rainbow-making land.

I’m a free spirited artist, so working for myself is ideal. No nine till five or set holidays mean I can enjoy time with my family, be spontaneous, even work in my PJ’s if I want.
Sending my creations all over the world is so exciting and some of the rainbow stories and feedback I have received have brought tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to be living my dream and bringing happiness to my wonderful customers through my passion.

I am thrilled to be brightening up the world with rainbows and colourful creations, and am planning much, much more.
I am currently working on several collections and also more one off art pieces incorporating words and quotes. I hope to hold an exhibition of my artwork next year here in Ibiza, and have prints of the pieces available in my Etsy store, so watch this space!

I have so many reasons to be grateful for my Etsy shop, especially that I have been able to relocate to Spain and take my business with me. One of my favourite things about having a shop on Etsy is the incredible stories customers have shared with me about why rainbows are special to them. That’s the magic and what makes it all worthwhile.
