Announcement   I really love to see how something that has worn out its usefulness can be transformed into something brand new. I love to work with fabrics; wool sweaters that I machine felt, cotton and cotton flannel, unbleached muslin, and lace. I am always looking at items that are ready to be discarded and asking myself..."How can this be given new life?"

About

I love to sew and repurpose.

I have always loved color and texture. A Home Ec class in high school showed me how much fun it is to cut out fabric and sew it together, which ignited a passion in me that has led me on this fun journey to where I am today.

It first led me to teach myself how to knit and I was certain that I would never want to stop knitting until I picked up a crochet hook and learned how to crochet. I couldn't decide which I liked to do the most, they each have their own pros and cons, so I did both.

Every time I would visit a yarn shop or see a craft booth that sold yarn I got so excited and just had to go touch all those beautiful yarns and rovings. The rovings are what fueled my desire for felting wool, so I read up on how to do it using my washing machine and dryer and was hooked the first time I removed a wool sweater from the dryer and saw how it had transformed from a fabric with stitch definition to a tightly woven fabric that doesn't unravel when cut. Some wools can be scratchy, but others are very soft and they are all wonderful to work with. And they are naturally insulating and fire resistant.

I love to repurpose and I have been doing it since I was a little girl. My mom and dad raised five kids on my dad's self-employed paychecks so we lived on a tight budget. That's why, when I wanted something that wasn't in the budget, I learned to get creative with what I already had. And my mom demonstrated that to all us kids many times as we were growing up.

I enjoy finding wool sweaters to felt by shopping yard sales, flea markets, and thrifts stores and then turning them into mittens, slippers, and hot pads. That is the heart of this shop.

I started A Repurposing Twin because I feel it is important to show that a lot of what is being discarded in our world can be reused, to encourage others to donate instead of throwing away and that it is very important for all of us to do what we can to help take care of this world that we are blessed to live on.

None of what I am able to do would be possible without Gods blessings.

I would love for you to come and check out my blog to see other projects that I work on . www.sewrepurposed.wordpress.com.
