The Never Ending Treasure Hunt

Hello and Welcome!

My name is Barbara Keenan-Bailey and I operate The Rhubarb Studio. I was raised in Alaska, lived and attended college in Germany for a while, moved back to the states and ultimately settled in Dayton, Ohio.

My first job was in a second hand shop while I was in high school. It was a dangerous job to have as I kept bringing home such fabulous finds, my days there were like a "treasure hunt" of what little jewel will I find, from textiles, to wooden sculptures, to metal containers, canvas paintings, the list goes on. I still feel the same way that I did when I was 16 years old-I love to treasure hunt. After all these years it still doesn't get old for me, and I know that there are others out there that feel the same way as I do and I hope the shop helps curb some of that treasure hunting that we all still have in us.

I started a vintage/repurposing shop in 2005, after I was enrolled in a Masters degree program in business (in Ohio) but instead wound up in the hospital. Needless to say, the degree got put on the back burner and I needed something to take up my time as I was limited as to what I could do and how far I could go. I rented a space in an antique mall down the street from where we lived in Waynesville, Ohio, but when we found the home that we are currently living in, that moved us about 40 minutes away from the shop, closed the shop up as the commute was too much. We bought a 1925 Colonial in a historical district in Dayton that we are restoring and I took a year off to help get the basics done and knew that I also wanted to get back to my first love of vintage, at which time I started The Rhubarb Studio on Etsy in 2010. I really enjoy what I do and anticipate that I will do this for as long as I can. If there is anything that I can help with you with, questions or requests of certain items, please feel free to contact me at any time. Vielen Dank :)

Thank you for stopping and taking a few minutes to look around the shop, stop by often as there is always something going never know what you will find.

I think I have become the veritable bell curve, first job was at a second hand shop, after college, kids, corporate brass ring, I am heading back down the bell curve to my own "second hand shop." Looks like I have come full circle.
