Frequently asked questions
Which rope is the best rope for my use case?

We recommend:

6.6mm ropes & 6mm ropes - for ground as well as for suspension work with persons with a body weight of 70 - 80 kg (11st – 12st 8lb / 154lb - 176lb). For people who bruise easily, we recommend this rope size as well.

5.5 mm ropes - for ground work, as well as for suspension work of persons weighing less than 70 kg (11st / 154lb).

5 mm ropes - mainly for ground work or suspension work with very lightweight persons

4.4 mm ropes - mainly for ground work, as well as for creative work such as woven corsets.

General rule: The thicker the rope, the more surface is available to distribute the (body) weight, and the less the rope cuts into the flesh. This is especially true for suspension work.

How should I store my ropes?

- Keep your ropes away from excessive heat, light and moisture. - Do not store your ropes near heat sources, in a humid environment and protect them from direct sunlight. - Twisted ropes have a positional memory. Therefore, do not store your ropes as tightly wound bundles over a long period of time. - Store your ropes in an air-permeable packaging (such as a cloth bag), but NEVER in a plastic bag or container as the ropes could otherwise sweat. - Store your ropes at room temperature and hang them loosely over a pole, e.g. a curtain rod, which is mounted to a wall at a height of approx. 2.20m/7.2ft. So your ropes can rest in a naturally ventilated environment.

Where do I find detailed information about rope conditioning and care of my jute ropes?

Currently this information is only available in German language on our website www.theropestry.de. We are however in the process of translating this information into English and it will be available soon.

Wear of the rope loop

The "loop" (or bight) of your rope is the most susceptible section of your rope to wear and tear. First signs of wear and tear will probably occur here. As soon as you notice this, shorten your rope by about 10 - 20 cm/ 4 - 8in and knot the new end. The loop now moves to the next free position. With this simple trick you'll extend the lifespan of your rope.

Ropes that are already worn should no longer be used for high-risk applications.

Discrete packaging

We ship our goods in plain brown or white cardboard boxes, very small shipments in a jiffy bag.

However, for consignments destined for countries outside the EU (e.g. Switzerland, USA, Canada, Australia etc.), we must provide a brief description of the goods on the customs declaration. Ropes and blindfolds are described are jute ropes and scarves.
