A brand or a person.
In the past I have chosen a brand name for my work. But now I market under the title ELM the Person for a few reasons. ELM is my initials but also a tree, hence the use of the word person. I am proud to share a name with a plant. I find this fitting as I aim to be as environmentally sustainable in my practices as possible, although I find this hard to do in the field of garment design and art distribution. I use block printing in order to cut out the use of photo emulsion chemicals. This decision has caused limitations, but created a style I am very happy with. My block print is my pen I draw with.
In my desire to offer items at an affordable price and in a reasonable amount of time I have some fabric and art printed commercially. The Values prints are an example of that. My hand printed work is intended to be less mass produced in the interest of making a craft 100% from scratch out of respect for the resources involved (most non renewable). But offering fair prices in important to me. So the compromise is to offer both.
My shop is focused on not only prints but also weaving. The tapestries are a labor of love. They take a very long time to make. I have in the past sold clothing and accessories with the weavings as embellishments. As I will offer those in the future, I took some time to really see what would happen if I went larger. EYES AND TEETH is the result of that.
My weavings are made or either organic cotton or recycled cotton material and hand crafted in Vermont.
I hope you like my shop and thanks for visiting.
