About us

We're a Mother & Daughter team - Shirley & Gemma - and we have been running The Seashack since 2013. We'd describe ourselves as optimists & we have a passion for creativity & personal development.

Shirley has a love of painting and uses her talents to create most of the artwork that you will see in our products. Gemma paints too and loves to write. She letters the artwork using her own handwriting. All of the ideas for each design and creative decisions are usually made together during brainstorming sessions or discussions about life! Shirley is also the wonderful force behind wrapping most of your orders and getting them safely to you!

We both live near the sea in Essex, in the south-east of England & we work from our homes which are in the same road! Living by the coast is a great inspiration to us and we both dream of one day having a studio space or shop by the sea.

'The Seashack' is a name that came to us when we thought about this space. It would be close to the sea, perhaps with a view; a little weathered but full of calm energy and positivity. A space that would inspire others and we'd sell our creations from.

Our business originally began as a way to combine our passion for positive living, the written word & creativity. We first produced quote signs & accessories for the home, as a way to inspire others. We soon discovered a customer base who appreciated these words of encouragement and this spurred us on to follow our hearts and create new things.

Everything we create is inspired by our thoughts about everyday life. We love the sea, nature, quotes, kindness...and anything that has a bit of a positive, encouraging and supportive vibe!

Returns and exchange details

We are happy to offer a full refund on all of our products, if for any reason you are unhappy once it has arrived. Please contact us to let us know within 14 days. Item(s) should be received back within 28 days of receiving your order. We can then process your refund. Return postage is the customer's responsibility.


If you'd like to cancel an order please let us know as soon as possible (but within 14 days) by sending us an Etsy conversation. If your order has already been posted we will only be able to process your refund once we have received the item(s) back in a saleable condition.
We accept payment via PayPal, debit and credit cards & the Etsy gift card.
How long will my order take to arrive?

We are based in the UK & all orders are sent by Royal Mail first class post.

We ship all orders within 1-3 days of being placed.

You will receive an email to notify you that your order is on the way.

You should receive your order within 2-5 days of placing it.

What if my order hasn't arrived?

Please contact us via the Etsy messaging service if your order hasn't arrived within 5 working days, so that we can rectify the problem.

Custom and personalised orders

We unfortunately arent able to personalise our pencils or any other product. However, the contents of our self care and confidence boxes can be tailored more specifically. Please send us an Etsy conversation to discuss how we can help.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All of our products are carefully wrapped in tissue paper making them ideal gifts. We offer this service as standard, along with a personal note. If you'd like to include one as part of a gift please let us know the details at checkout.

Wholesale availability
