Do you have a massive stash? (who can pass up MadTosh when they see it? Not me!)

Or maybe you've been trapped by the ooo-shiny syndrome. Those gorgeous, single skeins of hand dyed yarn that lured you in without any plans for a project.

Are you puzzled with what to do with the little odds and ends of left overs from other projects. You know, a half or a third of a skein. What do people do with all of those????

Well, hello there. I’m Liz and I'm here to help.

ABOUT ME

I’m wife to my best friend and mama to a trio of unschooled boys. We ditched the city a few years ago to grow a handmade business + build a slow simple, sustainable life in the the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

My grandma taught me that you can bounce back through anything (she lived successfully on a rural Iowa farm through the depression) with a few practical skills and the philosophy of waste not want not.

And this idea permeates through every part of our lives from shopping at thrift stores, gardening, building our off grid home out of recycled materials to using up every scrap of yarn when knitting.

“Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.” - Boyd K. Packer

Wanting to grow my own skills and create more natural clothing for my family, I taught myself to knit almost thirteen years ago. While my husband tended the garden and my boys chased bugs and counted the stars, I sat under the shade of the apple tree and taught myself to knit and purl.

I was obsessed. Eventually learning to dye my own yarn and design my own patterns.

All this knitting left me with baskets full of bits and pieces left over from other projects. A lot of the yarn was full of memories and not wanting anything to go to waste, I designed patterns that would allow me to use them up.

Eventually, I had so many WIPS and scrap yarn that I needed a way to organize them all and keep everything from turning into a tangled mess.

So I made myself a few project bags out of my oldest son's worn flannel shirt. They turned out so well, that I went to the thrift store for more clothing and turned them into the bags you can find in the shop now.

Upcycling is not only good for the earth, but by purchasing clothing from our local thrift store, we're directly funding the local food shelf as well.

One more thing.

Thanks for being here. No really, I mean it. I don’t care if you’re been knitting since the dawn of fun fur (please tell me it’s not still a thing) or are just learning to cast on, I’m thrilled to have you following along. I hope this little corner of the internet brings you much inspiration and joy as you follow your own knitting journey.

I'm easily distracted by my creative impulses. Mostly, I'm obsessed with wool and always come back to my knitting roots.
