The short story behind The Small Object

The Small Object began in 2004 because I didn't want to walk one more sheet of slides to one more gallery and try to talk to one more person about the possibility of one more art show. It wasn't me. Instead, I found during my art critiques I was handing out multiples of my artwork for my fellow classmates to keep which filled me with such an overwhelming positive feeling. At the end of the day, that was the work that really fulfilled me. At this point, I am so grateful to be creating everyday in my own studio for The Small Object. The shop is my way to directly connect with people who respond and appreciate my aesthetic.

The original designs, drawings and hand lettering are at the core of my shop. My drawings are what ties all my objects together. Along with my collection for The Small Object, I also create custom keepsake wedding cake toppers. You can find more information about them in my Etsy wedding shop,

Beginning in 2009, I began to work with Chronicle Books to illustrate a series of gift and stationery products. I have begun to add them to my online shop and soon all will be available to purchase here.

Currently, I live in Atlanta, GA with my wife and our three cats but I have been up and down the East coast with a short stint outside of Chicago--but the South is deep in my core. The shop continues to be run by just me and is my full-time and only job and that's because of you. Thank you! You are amazing!

Returns and exchanges
Your satisfaction is extremely important to me!! I know that may not always happen but if you can let me know, I will actively work to fix the problem. If you find an item does not meet your expectations, again just let me know. I have not had this problem, but would welcome any feedback. I am always more than happy to come to a solution. Given the nature of custom orders however, I am not able to accept returns.

Shipping is another area where things can go wrong. If you do not receive an item, please let me know! I want to hear from you and will do what I can to make sure you receive your order. I hate it when things I order don't make it to me either! The one part that gets dicey is shipping outside of the U.S. The cheapest shipping method does not provide tracking or insurance. If this is important to you, please let me know and we can do a shipping upgrade.
Payment is accepted via credit card on Etsy via direct checkout or via Paypal. Bank transers are available via Paypal. Payment is expected at the time you order. Orders will be cancelled for non-payment. If you need more time, just send me a convo. I'd love to hear from you. Custom orders cannot be cancelled once production has begun. And happy news--taxes are included. Yes!
All orders are shipped via the United States Postal Service. Orders ship in 7 business days. Given the estimated delivery times, please allow 1 to 2 weeks for your order to arrive, once it has shipped. If you need it by a specific date, please let me know. I can usually accommodate your request, but just need to know in advance. You will receive notification via email from Paypal to the email address associated with your Paypal account once your order ships. (For smaller orders, I'll send you an email once it ships via First Class Mail.)

For orders less than $10, your order will ship via First Class Mail. All other orders ship via USPS Priority Mail. Delivery times may vary but First Class mail generally takes 3 to 5 days and Priority Mail generally takes 2 to 3 days to arrive once shipped.

International orders can ship via USPS Priority Mail International or USPS First Class Mail International. Orders over $10 are shipped via USPS Priority Mail International to all countries it supports. Delivery times for Priority Mail International are generally 6 to 10 days once shipped. Orders under $10 are shipped via First Class Mail International by the U.S. Postal Service. Delivery times for First Class Mail International vary and may take up to 3 weeks once shipped. However, packages can take up to 4 weeks to arrive depending on your location.

All purchases of electronic downloadable files (aka "Printables") will be emailed to the email address associated with your Paypal account within 24 hours. If you would like them emailed to a different email address, please specify during checkout. All electronic files will be emailed as Adobe PDF attachments and will originate from the email address "info at thesmallobject dot com" so please make sure you add it to your address book so it won't end up in your junk mail folder.
