About TheSpeckledKat

Sales 411
On Etsy since 2011

Why should an artist have to settle for lower quality materials simply because they want to venture outdoors and be inspired?

It's that exact question that led me to where I am now with my shop. I wanted to bring others useable art and the best quality materials to use in making their own masterpieces. This is why I only use Arches paper in all of my journals, because it's simply the best!

The marbling process is very meditative, and knowing that each marbled piece will be one of a kind gives me great pleasure, and even though, in a way, I'm making essentially the same thing over and over, I don't feel like an assembly line, because every step of the way I'm creating something one of a kind, starting with the hand marbled leather, choosing the marbled end pages, the color of thread, and final fixtures, it's all one of a kind!

I am a self-taught artist (well, I do joke that I have many youtube degrees). But everything that I have learned has been through lots of research and hands on trial and error. I enjoy learning, keeping busy, and creating. I also love SO many forms of art! Regardless of having a very vast art interest, I focus my shop on leather and watercolors. I love working with my hands, and working with leather gives me that creative outlet. And when I was first learning to work with watercolors, I often became frustrated because my paper and paint were poor quality and couldn't perform the way I intended, which led me to doing tons of research and testing to find what would work best for me and what works best for many other artists.

I refer to watercolors as my Mount Everest in a way. There's something so elusive about working with watercolors, it's very difficult to master, as part of learning to master watercolor is learning to let go.

Because my shop is geared around artists, I have had the pleasure of meeting so many different artists along the way! It is something I treasure as each one is inspiring and unique. And I hope that my journals will reflect that back to them.

Thanks for reading my story and for checking out TheSpeckledKat!

I call my collective works 'a Hodgepodge of Creativity' because I enjoy working with my hands so much that I've collected quite a number of skills over the years and what I make has such a very broad spectrum. Crafting is my addiction and delight!
