Announcement    LATEST UPDATE:

🚩COVID-19 has created delays with most everything these days, so please expect things to take a little more time than expected from production to finished product and delivery. Our suppliers are late with our needed tools for the trade but we will just keep moving forward all together now...strong and steady.

🌀We are setting up shop again here in Sunny Arizona, USA —all the way from Co. Galway IRELAND! AND, we are always available online to answer any queries, so please don't hesitate to ask. We are slowly adding new and and colourful items-it just takes a bit of time to get things all restocked.

Thank you so much for your patience while we are creating, sewing, and weaving lots of 'Flicka Stuff' to fill the shop again! ~Felicia

And of course, our Folk-style Rag Rugs are handmade right here in our studio using mostly upcycled materials and cotton fibres, and are always available year round, no matter if it's warm or cool outside, because your feet will just love the difference a Rag Rug makes!

Don't forget our Potholders, Mug Rugs, and little do-it-yourself Wooden Potholder Looms are all sustainably made by hand in small batches right here on the west coast of Ireland and our Patchwork Scarves are absolutely The Swedish Flicka's specialty!

What's looming...well perhaps you might get your cup of tea, and sit down for a wee bit while you browse 'Flicka Stuff'!

The Swedish Flicka is a variety shop of up-cycled projects. We have enjoyed creating RAG RUGS from a plethora of used clothing and fabrics. Then, we use the remaining pieces of cloth for our cosy PATCHWORK SCARVES, and just when we thought there were no more use for the scraps left...we made woven POTHOLDERS!

So, we thought this was more than enough ideas to stock our shop with....but then we realised that there might be other folks that might like to get started Looming too. So we have added locally hand-made wooden potholder looms for you to create your very own potholders. Afterall, making potholders is how it all began for us here at The Swedish Flicka.

Rag Rug weaving takes quite a bit of time, but it gives you such a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Then the feeling of walking on the finished hand-woven product is just so satisfying! We cannot have enough of these rugs in our own home. So whether it is a big weave or a small one...it's all the 'voice of tradition' being passed down!

Our shop consists of 2 boys and a mum that homeschool and learn together, amidst many projects that teach us real life experiences. "The Swedish Flicka" name translates to " The Swedish Girl", and of course there are 2 Swedish Pojkar/Boys as assistants...but now- that's another story. ☺

Frequently asked questions
How do I wash my Patchwork Scarf?

Patchwork Scarf Care:

Spot clean if possible. Please follow the directions on the items tag. It will direct you to wash on delicate in a mesh/ lingerie bag or tied pillow case and make sure the water is cool.

Do NOT put the Patchwork Scarf in the dryer-let it air dry on a hanger. You may iron the cotton pieces on the front side but not the fleecy squares or the reverse fleecy side or they will most assuredly melt and stick to the iron.

There is just no way to know how each washing machine will affect the items, however, they are all sturdily made and should stand the test of time. Just give proper attention prior to washing and that will ensure that it stays in fine condition.

Are The Swedish Flicka Patchwork Scarves REALLY one-of-a-kind?

YES! We make everything in small batches here, so even if we use similar fabrics and patterns, and square placement, there will never ever be two Patchwork Scarves that are exactly alike. So each one is truly a unique masterpiece!

How do I clean my Rag Rug?

You can throw the Rag Rug into the washing machine on gentle cycle with as little agitation as possible, and air dry over a stair banister OR chair back until completely dry. However, a very old fashioned & traditional way of cleaning a Rug is the freezing snow method. On a cold, clear day (25°F/ - 3° or colder) with at least several inches of fresh powder snow, take the Rug outside and leave it for a couple of hours until it has frozen. Lay the stiff carpet in the snow and whack the exposed surface with a broom. Shake the rug out, turn it over on a fresh patch of snow, and beat the other side. If you wait for a cold, dry day, the rug will barely become wet when you clean it this way. Just brush off any loose snow before you take it inside.

Just let us know and we can clarify all the details!

How do I wash my Patchwork Baby Blankie?

Patchwork Blankie Care:

We understand baby accessories require lots of washing. So to extend the life of your Blankie, we suggest washing it on a delicate cycle. It has already been washed and dried here at our studio so we hope your washing machine is as gentle as ours.

There is just no way to know how each washing machine will affect the items, however, they are all sturdily made and should stand the test of time. Just give proper attention to washing and drying, and that will ensure that it stays in fine condition for your enjoyment.
