Announcement   WELCOME to Madislandartist!
I am a multi-media artist and I create many different types of jewelry, art and art. In my shop, you will find my one of a kind wearable art jewelry designs, hand painted night light jar lanterns, and my photo book. You may also find paintings, sculpture, and mobiles. i My inventory changes seasonally, because I travel and do trunk shows. The shop might be full one day, and nearly empty the next, so if you see something you like, grab it while you can!
My styles in all of my work vary greatly. It gives me great joy to experiment and play with different genres as well as techniques.
I make sculpture, mosaics, and mobiles using a variety of materials including found objects such as sea glass and driftwood, but also hammered copper or aluminum wire, stained glass, beads, coins, buttons, etc.
I like to make jewelry that tells a story which transports the wearer to another place: the deck of a ship on the high seas, a marketplace in Marrakesh, an old tenement with torn lace curtains blowing through a broken window.....a deserted island where mysterious things keep washing up on the beach, an abandoned cottage in a faraway land. In essence, I make dreams.
In my dream-pieces, I like to feature lake stones, sea glass or other salvaged items found on Lake Superior beach walks or in my winter travels.
I make pendants and other metal elements by hand (including sculpting, hammering and patinas) and I incorporate handmade beads from all over the world, purchased from Etsy bead makers and fair trade sellers. I do not repeat designs exactly or mass produce so they are all one of a kind. I purchase American made findings (or I make them myself) that do not contain toxic metal alloys.

When you purchase a piece from me, there is a name and a face as well as a detailed description of the piece and it's elements. I stand behind my work, and if you have any problem with your purchase, I will do my best to work with you to fix it! That's the difference between making a purchase from an artist versus an item that is mass produced, with only the name of a retailer behind it.

I seldom have the attention span to stay with a "series" for very long, so if you like something, get it before it's gone, because I'm probably already off on some new flight of fancy! Stay tuned, because there's always something new happening around here....

About

Art is its own Language; Art is medicine

Being creative is what puts my feet on the floor in the morning. It is what takes up nearly all the space in my brain, and often keeps me up (or GETS me up) well into the wee hours. I am interested in nearly any process in which I can use a medium to express thoughts and emotions in a way that is pleasing to me, and hopefully to others. I see art as a type of medicine, and I feel that it heals us on a cellular level.

I love creating, especially using found objects. I work in a wide variety of mediums and styles, but painting is my first love, followed by making jewelry. I'm not "mad"--I just like to say I have multiple personalities, and they are all artists!

Hello! Thank you for visiting my shop, Mad Island Artist. I have a variety of things for sale: art, books, and jewelry. In the winter, when I am traveling, I do not have access to some of my larger inventory, so only the items I have with me--smaller paintings and jewelry are available. online.

I do not ship until I have received payment. I accept paypal, major credit cards, and Etsy gift cards. If you want to cancel your order, you must do so within 24 hours of placing the order, or it may already be on it's way.
Shipping
I ship priority mail in the U.S., which includes tracking and insurance. Outside the U.S., I ship first class. Tracking an insurance are extra, so please let me know if you want those BEFORE ordering, if you are outside the U.S.
Refunds and Exchanges
I will do my best to track down any items that get lost in the mail, however I am not responsible for anything that gets lost or damaged in transit.--mail insurance covers that. I photograph all of my items and the package they are shipped in. before mailing, and if there is damage to the item and or packaging, I will need to have photographs of it in order to file a claim.
Additional policies and FAQs
I do custom orders, but I never repeat a design exactly. Please let me work with you to design something just for you!
I understand that "life happens" and things get damaged sometimes. That just means you are wearing the piece I made for you! If any part of a piece breaks, I will do my best to replace the broken element. Obviously, many of the elements I use are one of a kind or limited edition, so the replacement part might not be exactly the same, or may not be available.
****In the case of earrings, if one is lost or damaged, I generally have to make the whole pair over again, and if so, there will be a full-set charge for that. If I do have matching elements to make a replacement, it would only be a charge for one earring.
