Get ready - Christmas is coming!
Fall has arrived, and with it - cranberries, wild sage, crisp days and gorgeous sun on fresh snow. Our mountain tops are dusted with snow - foragers like myself are madly gathering what we need from the hills and woods before the snow covers everything with a thick blanket until spring. I hope you're taking time to get outside and enjoy the beauty of this season!

About

Mom, does dinner always have to be BORING?

Those words were spoken about 15 years ago by my young daughter. I was raising three kids, busy with a full time job during the day and teaching dance classes a few nights a week. Between all our obligations and schedules, finding time to plan and cook healthy, tasty meals to satisfy picky palates was not even on my radar.

I cooked simply; basic meat, potatoes, vegetables. That's not a bad way to cook at all; if you add a bit of creativity and flavour to the ingredients, you'll get a pretty good meal. But her comment sparked me - It jogged my creativity and somehow gave me permission to stop viewing cooking as a necessary evil.

I began the sort of kitchen exploration I hadn't even attempted since before my kids were born. Before too long, I was mixing thai curry paste, exploring flavour combinations and gifting guests and co-workers with homemade rosemary or sun-dried tomato and basil sea salt.

It took me a decade to decide (all of a sudden) to start The Twisted Gourmet. This idea came to me fully formed, one afternoon in the woods. Why not combine what I love most... nature and great food, and start something brand new!?

So I did. I started The Twisted Gourmet in the fall of 2015. I launched the line at Whitehorse Yukon's largest Christmas craft sale and roared through my first season. I worked nights in the kitchen making and packaging more product that I had dreamt I would need, and the growth has continued to keep me very busy.

I have a smoker and five dehydrators going sometimes... drying garlic scapes, fresh ginger, roasted garlic, preserved lemon, garden fresh and wild herbs, wild berries, wild-crafted flower petals...you name it. Living in the Yukon means we have a short growing season, so I'm forever looking for ways to maximize the products I can source locally...and sometimes local means as close as the forest near my house! I travel to exotic places in search of new flavours; Morocco, Vietnam, Carcross Yukon...

The Twisted Gourmet is now featured in local grocery stores, museum shops & souvenir stores, and outside of Whitehorse in funky coffee shops and kitchens all over! I love what I do, am excited every single time someone tells me what they cooked with one of my blends. I've had the very good fortune to be featured in a couple of great newspaper and magazine articles and the exposure brings with it ideas... not just business. Every conversation I have with someone who talks about their favourite meal or flavour inspires me to try something new... something extra good.

I'm very happy you've found my site. I hope you'll try some of my blends and let me know what you cooked! Get a little TWISTED in your kitchen!

If you're having a conference or special event like a wedding, I'd love to work with you to create an event specific label for your delegates or guests! Minimum quantities must be ordered for custom orders, so please contact me with questions and to learn more!
