Announcement    Welcome to Kitsch N Kaboodle's Urban-Chic Showroom!

To better help my clients, I've created a new shop specifically dedicated to showcasing my high quality upcycled furniture artistry and restorations. I have moved all other departments, containing ephemera, vintage kitchenalia, toys, to separate shops.

I hope that by doing so I can more easily concentrate on the best items by category and give buyers the easiest possible way to shop for their particular fields of interest.

Kitsch-n-Kaboodle is a family of specialty antiques and ephemera shops maintained by StarwarsDan. Urban-Chic is my online, upcycled and restored furniture showroom, the main basis of my business.

Other shops from Kitsch-n-Kaboodle include

Objectification: unusual objects of intrinsic quality. Looking beyond utility and traditional ideas of what is collectible or decorative, in the belief that the art of the object is its own utility.

StarwarsDan: K-n-K's vintage toy shoppe, with 20 years of experience, specializing in estate collections and consignments. It's not just Star Wars... it's the Force of the child in all of us.

Think of it like the different departments of Kitsch N Kaboodle....

About

Over 15 years of quality vintage interiors, restorations and upcycled furniture

Kitsch-n-Kaboodle began in 1997, outfitting local consignment shops and design/decorating boutiques with refinished and faux painted furniture, lighting and accessories, as a means of putting myself through design school while studying film, television and theatrical production.

In 1999 I branched out online into an ebay store, which remained open for 10 years and was at one time published in ebay's magazine among the top 5 retailers on ebay in the used and vintage/antique furniture categories.

Over the years I have dabbled in estate liquidation, fine art and collectibles consignments, vintage lighting restoration, collectible toys, and a host of other related sidelines as opportunities presented themselves. I have learned to be open to new developments in the decorating and collectibles markets and never to put all of your eggs in one antique basket.

I am mostly self-taught and specialize in tedious and difficult restorations, including veneer repair, carving repair, replacement parts, tinted and faux finishing and custom-built, up-cycled furniture, lighting, and installations made of all salvage materials.

I work with wood as well as resin castings and other alternative materials. 3/4 of my items fall into the painted and faux finish design mode, but I also offer standard, traditional wood tone finishing of high caliber. My pieces range from the rustic, farm primitive to the elegant French apartment to mid century modern.

I value quality of deign and craftsmanship over any one particular look. I dabble in almost anything of quality, but my design specialties tend most toward the affluent and early 20th century design movements. I will however fix, repair, refinish or enhance almost anything that a client can throw at me.

I am a crating and shipping specialist with 15 years experience, offering affordable delivery nationwide and world-wide. If it can be shipped, I will ship it, and I was one of the first furniture retailers on ebay in the late 90s offering low-cost used furniture delivery internationally.

Based currently in northern New Jersey and formerly of Philadelphia, I have had clients as far away as Melbourne and Tokyo. I have shipped large furniture across multiple continents. There is no job too large or too small, and there is no place too far away.

At Kitsch-n-Kaboodle, the sky is literally the limit...

WARRANTY & RETURNS:
Items are old/used, even when they are remade anew, or made from recycled parts, and they are one of a kind with little possibility of a precise replacement. There is no way to guarantee such an item with absolute certainty.
For this reason, all items are sold as-found, as shown, with no warranty, either express or implied. No returns. All sales final.

DEPOSITS: are non-refundable after 10 business days or with work in progress, as allowed by law.

Should a buyer cancel an order for custom goods, it is common courtesy to allow the craftsman to keep the deposit for his time and trouble, expenses, and in payment of the work he has done so far, as well as recognition of the portion of wages he is losing due to the client backing out of the deal.
Assuming that the cancellation is the buyer's choice, any buyer agrees to provide the seller liquidated damages in the form of a non-refundable deposit commensurate to a fair wage and compensation for any supplies and materials which have already been utilized on the client's behalf for the portion of work completed at the time of cancellation.

Cancellations should be made in writing (Etsy convo or email ok) and must include full payment for any portion of labor completed up to that point beyond the initial non-refundable deposit. Contacting the craftsman to discuss severance before taking this step is highly recommended.

Initial deposits on layaways are non-refundable, as allowed by law, and shall be considered as a cancellation/restocking and storage fee. If additional payments have been made beyond the first deposit, contact the seller to set up a refund payment of the subsequent installments.

SIGNING FOR DELIVERY:
Most shipments require signature and/or confirmed delivery. Delivery confirmation is provided on almost all shipments. Signature is required for shipments whose value is $50 or higher.
When signing for your shipment, you are also signing for proper condition. A delivery receipt is a legal document stating the item is received IN GOOD ORDER. If your order arrives with clear, obvious damage to the outer packaging, the buyer may refuse to sign or may sign clearly the word "DAMAGED".

ALL DAMAGE MUST BE NOTED ON THE DELIVERY RECEIPT. If not noted on the delivery receipt, a claim cannot be processed.

Damages are not returns: Please do not return a damaged article. Accept the damaged shipment by notating the damage on the delivery receipt and contacting me immediately. If there is no placed to write it (such as UPS electronic tablet) clearly print "DAMAGED" in the signature space. Keep all parts and all contents, including packing materials, and contact the seller within 4 days. Send photos if possible. Damage notifications received after 4 days of receipt cannot be accepted.

CLAIMS:
Buyer agrees to cooperate with all shipping company damage/loss claims procedures and to accept the terms and payout reimbursement the shipping company provides. Seller is not responsible for shipping loss or damage and will not directly reimburse. Seller acts as liason only in assisting the buyer in achieving reimbursement from the shipping company.
Blocking the shipping company from inspecting the damaged article, or retrieving the article for claims processing, and any chargeback or payment reversal of the original purchase from the seller will automatically void a claim.

The claims process is outlined by law, in 3 stages: shipping company has 30 days to acknowledge the claim; up to 180 days to investigate and resolve the claim; 30 days to remit a claims check.
Most claims are completed must faster than this, on average 2-3 weeks, however buyers and sellers are bound to accept the time allowances outlined by law.

Concealed damage: liability is limited to 1/3 of the loss, as per freight industry standard.

Damage/loss claims only cover original purchase price, and will not pay for any other costs or expenses for inconvenience or time, appreciation, or replacement cost. A claim may only be placed once. If the damaged article is returned to the buyer from the claims inspection administrator, there is no subsequent insurance coverage. If a claim is approved for the full purchase price, the shipping company may have salvage rights to the article and may elect not to return the item to the receiver. The buyer and/or seller do not have the right to retain the product in that event, at the discretion of the shipping company. In cases of minor or partial damage, the buyer and seller are required to accept repair reimbursement.
Payment
Visa/Mastercard, Discover, American Express accepted through Etsy's checkout system or via e-invoice through Square.

For local patrons or local deliveries, I also offer COD via portable electronic creditcard reader powered by Square.

I reserve the right to reject Paypal payments for custom orders, self-pick-up, or labor because these services are excluded from Paypal's service agreement & terms where fraud protection is concerned.

Payment methods by mail: money order, personal check, business check, subject to clearance with a waiting period.

Layaways welcome, with flexible terms determined on a case-by-case basis. In most cases I expect a deposit of at least half the purchase price, with subsequent monthly payments of no more than 12 months total pay-off.

Deposits for custom orders and layaways are non-refundable after 10 business days, or with work in progress, as permitted by law. Usually the amount of deposit withheld in a cancellation corresponds to the amount of work completed as well as liquidated damages for anticipated wages if the buyer backs out of a labor agreement or sales contract. These may also include storage cost if the cancellation follows a lengthy storage period. I try to make these things as fair as possible for all parties involved, and I do follow local, state and federal consumer protection laws. NJ is very favorable toward buyers in this regard, so have no fear.

Sales tax for NJ residents: 7%.
Shipping
I am a small, independent craftsman with no other employees to handle custom-crating and large-item specialty packing. I do all of this by myself, which must be interspersed with my normal custom craftsmanship in the day-to-day schedule.

As furniture items require more tedious, time-consuming, and laborious packing efforts, the buyer's patience and flexibility is a must. Do not expect large furniture to be custom crated and shipped next day.

Because items are antique/vintage, and because I sell in person locally as well, it is not possible to have items pre-packaged for immediate shipment. I do not pre-package before payment. If mailing payment, your order will be crated for shipment after payment clearance, which will lengthen delivery time.

Small items are typically dispatched within 48 hours of order placement and payment clearance.

Most large items can be prepared for shipment within 7-10 days, but some larger more difficult specialty packaging, or orders including multiple pieces may take longer.

I do not accept shipping 'deadlines' except as outlined by law. Any arrival times I may provide are estimated only. Many delivery estimates will depend on receiver cooperation in coordinating final delivery efforts and being available at the place of delivery to sign for the shipment.

My furniture is professionally packaged for safety in transit. In some cases I may use professional white-glove delivery services, where available. I offer fast, personal delivery up to 3 hours drive from my home location.

Delayed shipment storage is welcome up to 30 days from payment free of charge. After 30 days, storage rates are $35/month, or $1/day for any part of a month thereafter.

CUSTOM ORDERS AND REPAIR/REFINISHING/CARPENTRY LABOR:
I do not charge any storage cost on custom orders while work is in progress. Custom orders are allowed one month free storage after completion of the project, with standard storage rates as described herein thereafter. Example: if a project takes 3 months to complete, the buyer may store it here free of charge until the end of the 4th month. The buyer should be willing to pay for storage if they choose to delay receipt from the 5th month onward.

CUSTOM LABOR AND RESTORATION WILL DELAY SHIPPING
For any item that is available in my shop "as is" or "as found" with a shipping time estimate on the advertisement, that handling period shall not apply to any restoration, carpentry, repair, refinishing, or any other type of labor which is added to an invoice to enhance the item at the buyer's request. Labor time is not handling time and is not included in any shipping and handling time estimates. The handling time for an order follows the conclusion of the work/labor time of restoration. Example: if you order a nightstand with a chip of the veneer with a handling time of 5 business days for crating, and you ask the craftsman to repair the chip prior to shipment, there will be an additional time period of however long it takes to make the repair alteration in addition to the 5 day handling time. If it takes the carpenter 2 weeks to finish preceding orders and to complete the repair on the nightstand, then the total time before shipping would be 14 days + 5 days = 19 days. This does not include transit time and is only an example. If timing of repairs is a concern, ask the craftsman for a repair time estimate AND a handling estimate prior to order.
Custom orders, regardless of scope of the project, have a minimum handling period of 8 weeks. This does not mean the work will always take this long, nor will it always be this short- each project is different. However, we ask that as a matter of contractual agreement the client agrees to allow the craftsmen at least weeks prior to shipment for all artistic or restoration labor. If you cannot afford to wait at least 8 weeks for the completion of the work, do not place an order.

FEEDBACK EXTORTION POLICY:
If a client at any time during the ordering process or while work is in progress sends a communication with a demand to work faster or do more than the craftsman originally was led to believe would be included, and that demand includes a threat of non-payment or defamation, that client's order will be immediately canceled.
