Frequently asked questions
Do you accept returns?
Yes, simply message me for return requests within 72 hours of the recorded receipt of delivery; no exceptions to any circumstances outside this 72 hour time frame. Please respond promptly to all messages as returns are time sensitive and are to be shipped back within 7 days of delivery. Return shipping costs are paid by the buyer; the original shipping costs (whether free or not) will be deducted from the refund. Items that arrive without a return agreement will be “Returned to Sender” No refunds or exchanges will be given if an item is not returned in original condition. “Original Condition” means the item was not worn beyond a try-on, used, cleaned, or damaged and has the hangtags securely attached and not tampered with.
What items Can Not be returned or exchanged? What countries do you ship to?
No returns or exchanges for WEDDING DRESSES, VEILS, CRINOLINES, INTIMATES, FINAL SALE, AS-IS, SHIPPING DELAYS, UNOPENED/REFUSED orders. I ship international except to Germany as I am not registered with Germany's VerpackG (Packaging Act) site. I may temporarily suspended shipping to any country/region that has a postal strike, natural disaster, cyberattack or unreliable/backlogged postal systems as these situations will impact delivery expectations and standards. Per Etsy's sitewide policies I reserve the right to refuse an order before or after it is placed without explanation. You will be fully refund if your order is affected by these said issues.
I'm an International customer, how will my order be shipped? How long will it take to arrive?
Orders ship USPS First Class Intl. up to 4 lbs taking 12-21+ days to arrive. Orders over 4 lbs ship USPS Priority Mail taking 7-15+ days to arrive. In rare instances shipping costs may exceed what was quoted or the package is required to ship via Priority Mail due to its size or declared value; you will be notified of the increased shipping cost. The Vintage Mistress is not responsible for orders lost, delayed, held by Customs and not picked up, unsuccessful attempted deliveries, wrong addresses or paying Custom's import fees/taxes. Packages returned due to non-delivery reasons are not refundable/ exchangeable and will be reshipped once the buyer purchases new postage. I will help initiate damaged and lost package claims, just message me.
How will my order ship in the US? What kind of packaging do you use? My order arrived damaged, help!
Items are safely packaged in sturdy waterproof mailing bags or boxes. Domestic packages ship USPS First Class or Priority, UPS or Fed-Ex with delivery confirmation and tracking. If you would like to add insurance, contact me before purchasing for rates. The Vintage Mistress is not responsible for orders lost, delayed, held by the courier and not picked up, unsuccessful attempted deliveries, or a wrong address was supplied. What does vintage condition mean? How will I know if it will fit?
Items in preowned, vintage condition will have wear consistent with age, storage and use, i.e. loose threads or missing stitching, tiny inconspicuous spots, overall fabric wear, sticky yet functioning zippers, prior tailoring or repairs, etc. Due to monitor differences, actual colors may vary from what appears online. Vintage sizes and shapes are not equivalent to contemporary sizes and shapes. Vintage garments were often tailored and cut much different than today's clothing. To get the best fit from vintage clothing compare your body measurements to the listing's measurements and factor in enough "wiggle" room to move comfortably in the garment. It's always best to know your true measurements rather than assuming them.
Below is my measuring procedure for merchandise in this shop. All measurements are provided in inches. If you need a measurement taken in a different way than what my procedure describes, contact me before purchasing.
Measurements are taken on the outside of the garment, laid upon a smooth solid surface with wrinkles smoothed out, using a cloth tape measure. The garment must be buttoned or zipped up and not distorted. BUST: Measured from outside edge of armpit seam to outside edge of next armpit seam x2. WAIST: Smallest point of bodice where fabric curves inwards, measuring straight across from outside edge to outside edge x2. HIP: Widest point below waist, measuring straight across from outside edge to outside edge x2. TOTAL LENGTH: Middle point of shoulder seam to where the garment ends at bottom going straight down. SHOULDER: Straight across the back, one shoulder seam to the next. SLEEVE: Measured from the top of sleeve seam to the end of the sleeve.
How do I measure myself? Use a tailor's tape and measure over your bra and panties, NOT over your clothing. Keep the tape measure straight, level and taught. If you plan to wear a special type of bra or a girdle under the garment, measure yourself while wearing these. More information here⬇
BUST: Measure over the fullest part of your bust while wearing a bra. UNDERBUST / EMPIRE WAIST: Measure around the fullest part of your ribcage, about midway between your bust and waist. WAIST: Measure around the smallest point of your waist where it naturally curves in on the side. HIP: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks. This is usually about 8"-9" below your waist. SHOULDER WIDTH: Measure from the point where your shoulder begins curving down into the arm, across your back, to the next shoulder point. TOTAL LENGTH: Measure from shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lie, down the front going over your bust, to the point you want the garment to end.
