“Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.” – Pablo Picasso
My name is Janis Holland. I have been using my art as a diary for as long as I can remember-- from drawing huge flowers on my bedroom wall as a child, to painting furniture, toy chests, kids' rocking chairs, coasters, wood knife blocks and a mailbox. For a couple of years I even assisted in painting bobble heads for a local artist. My favorite thing to do is paint with acrylics on canvas. I love how art can create all sorts of feelings and emotions to people and how one person can see something completely different from another. I really enjoy going to art galleries to see art up close and watching people's reactions to art. I started painting on a regular basis shortly after my father passed away in 2012 and decided to paint full time when I was helping out my mother after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It was during this time that my art became my therapist and my voice. My current style is inspired by my love of shapes and patterns. I am always amazed by what you can do with such simple shapes like circles, squares and triangles. I like to use bright and bold colors for they make me smile as I paint and there is no better feeling than seeing all the colors come together in harmony. I take pleasure in hearing what others see and feel when they see my art. For this collection I was inspired by sacred geometry and using texture to bring everything to life. While a few paintings have crushed crystals mixed in the paint, others have coarse pumice stone, crackle paste or molding paste blended in. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love almost every day. If I can make even one person smile with my work, my heart is happy. I am currently painting with Golden acrylics on stretched canvas. All of my current work is what I call geometric abstract art and all are one of a kind originals. I start by drawing out my design then taping off the pattern and then painting over it all by hand so it still has a bit of imperfection to it. I try to make all of my art affordable for I feel that original art shouldn’t break your bank. Thank you for taking the time to look at my art and please feel free to contact me with any questions!
