Announcement   I am passionate about handmade. I prepare and spin yarn, which I also sell, which I use to create my signature product - one of a kind fiber art hearts. I do not use a pattern to crochet the hearts; I allow the yarn and the hook to guide my creativity. I then embellish each heart using a variety of materials and techniques.

This is a gift for any occasion: Birth or Birthday; Wedding or Anniversary; Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Graduation, Baptism, Confirmation or First Communion, and even to provide comfort during difficult times and times of loss.

All yarn and hearts are made in a smoke free, cat free, dog friendly home studio.

Other than hearts, I also love to make a variety of things with my hand spun yarn including bowls, wall hangings, wearable items, pillows, and coasters to name a few.

At this time I ship only within the United States.

About

Yarn Is My Art

The Woolen Hook is the culmination of everything I love most - hand spinning yarn and crochet. I am a life long maker...I can’t remember a time when I didn’t make things. My love affair with yarn began with learning to crochet as a Girl Scout, and though I tried a variety of other crafts, fiber has my heart.

Most recently I spent eleven years owning a yarn shop. I literally played with yarn every day. It was a magical time. Through shop ownership I made connections that enabled me to learn to spin yarn, something that had fascinated me for years. I took a class and then I played with a drop spindle for a very long time before finding just the right wheel to buy. When I sat down and successfully made yarn the first time I was absolutely mesmerized. There was no turning back.

At the shop knitting was our bread and butter so my love for crochet took somewhat of a back seat. I experimented with freeform crochet and joined an online international group through whom I participated in annual challenges and had my work displayed as part of a larger work of crochet art. I also tried my hand at designing crochet patterns for publication. My patterns have appeared in Interweave Crochet, Crochet! Magazine, and I had two books published through Leisure Arts. But, it is the art of crochet that I love the most.

Now, I spend my days making beautiful yarn as well as one of a kind pieces of fiber art made with my yarn. I am inspired by nature and the world around me. I live in Houston, Texas and am profoundly impacted by the culture, diversity, and natural beauty of my state. As much as I love Texas, I believe my soul belongs to New England. The first time I stepped foot in Vermont my heart just over flowed with love for the natural beauty and the idyllic life there. Then I discovered Maine; rocky coasts, lobster, chowder, and breathtaking beauty, that is my spirit home.

I started collecting hearts forty years ago and I have not tired of them yet. I find so much joy in making these beautiful little hearts. Just like us, no two hearts are ever alike. Some are big, some not. Some are puffy and some are slender. Some are whimsical and others are somber. But each one is made with love and care. Each detail is carefully thought out and each stitch meticulously created. You see, I believe each heart will end up with just the right person at just the right time, for just the right purpose.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I sincerely hope there is something here that makes your heart happy.
