The Woolly Tangle, helping you enjoy your fibre crafts.
I've always been a creative sort of body but I didn't really find my niche until I picked up a pair of needles while expecting my first son. Over that time I've taught myself a lot about knitting, including how to get out of an almighty tangle!
I first came across knitted jewellery years ago, buying some earrings from a craft fair. After learning how to knit I found myself thinking 'I could do that'. I realise this is a bad habit that all knitters have. It somehow leaves us unable to finish a project and be happy, or to just enjoy someone else's work! Somehow we're always thinking 'I could it better' or 'what if it were stripy'? I sat on this thought for quite a while and then we lost my mother in law to cancer.
She spent a large part of her life as a teacher, but loved all manner of crafting. Never getting the time to do it, all we heard was 'when I retire I'll . . . '. She never got her long wished for retirement. I learnt that there's little point thinking 'when the kids are older' or 'when I'm feeling braver'.
Having taken the plunge, I've found how much I love creating things. The jewellery obsession has moved over as I realised how much I loved creating things that help crafting go more smoothly. I made my mum a bag for mother's day some years ago & enjoyed watching her organising everything. She'd previously kept everything in a carrier bag. The joy I got from watching her was enough to convince me to start down the path I'm now on.
Project bags are made in different sizes to suit the differing projects that we all have. There are small ones for accessories, or small 100g projects like socks. They go right through the shawl size, and sweater size, up to ones large enough to house a blanket or larger sweater.
Maths and I do not get on, and given that I live in a busy household, constantly counting stitches is not something I find particularly restful! Hence the stitch marker range. When sourcing or making these, I have an eye for useability, keeping them as snag free as I can, and also for prettiness and functionality. Sometimes you just need one really lovely one, sometimes you need 50 as light as possible!
I am lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of the world and dyeing yarn has become my way of sharing that. I used to be a professional gardener in the past, before the family came along, and I am constantly having my head turned by flowers & trees & lovely colours. I try to keep a range of bases in stock to suit different projects and different pockets.

Custom and personalized orders
I'm very happy to accept custom orders. I'll work with you to create something individual you'll love. Once the work is agreed, I will require payment in full before any work starts. This does mean however, that your item will be straight on it's way to you once I'm finished.
Gift wrapping and packaging
All jewellery items are mounted on card, wrapped in tissue paper & placed into a handmade envelope. They will come out to you in a cardboard postal box for safety. All other items will be tissue wrapped & either posted in a box or jiffy envelope, whichever is most suitable.
Postage Services
All items are posted out through Royal Mail using first class post for UK mainland items and International Standard airmail for international orders. These services do not include tracking as standard. If you would like the option of having your parcel posted with tracking please message me. This significantly increases the costs of posting which is why I do not automatically include it.
Gift wrapping and packaging
I am currently working on reducing the amount of single use plastic that I use in packaging my orders. Currently orders are wrapped in tissue paper and sent in a poly mailer bag, jiffy envelope or cardboard box, whichever is more suitable. I'm looking at alternatives to poly mailers which are kinder to our planet. This FAQ will be updated once I have made sure that the alternatives I am considering will protect your order as well as the planet.
If you have any queries about packing then please do get in touch.
