Fast ship. Sturdy construction. Beautiful and unique. I would suggest a closing mechanism in future designs. Otherwise a solid 5.
In 2008 the WREN bird logo was drawn. It spent a year or so flying around some computer harddrive before Wendren resigned from her day job as a Textile Designer and started "the WREN design" with the little Wren bird logo.
The reason the company began was a combination of Wendren finding the workplace uninspiring and bag products out there, well, soul less.
When it started Wendren was cutting fabric on the floor of her flat and sewing in her kitchen. In 2009 this "factory" moved to take over the main room in her flat and two seamstresses from her old factory - Fatima and Zurina started helping out. Eventually they quit their day jobs too to work for "the WREN design".
Today the company is still a home-run business. Wendren works from the biggest room in her townhouse (which she calls the "studio room") and the garage (also known as the "back studio"). Fatima and Zurina work from their home where they have built on what they call their "factory" and the part-time seamstresses and seamsters either work from their homes, studio's or join up with ours.
Maybe one day we will all work from a common studio but somehow this works well for now.
Owner, Wearer Of Many Hats.
Originally a Textile Designer but now she finds more fun from discovering unusual "fabrics", challenging their perceived purpose and creating bags.
For over 30 years Fatima worked in a Clothing Factory making jeans. And jeans only. Then she learnt to make WREN bags, resigned and now she can make just about anything you ask her - and perfectly!
A line-machinist now cutter and assistant seamstress to her sister Fatima, Zerina cuts, fuses and helps sew.
Maker, General Hand
Yvonne is involved in every possible part of the production of a piece - from marking the fabric, to checking it for threads once it comes back from production, labeling, packing...you name it. She even helps sew when things get too hectic.
Maker, Heavy-duty Seamster
In his tiny little Studio Lovemore makes Shoes. But for us, he stitches our very special heavy duty linens and leather. Lovemore makes the Antique Linen Duffel & Yoga Bags.
Maker, Part-time Seamster
A tailor of note, Roger makes some of our paper sleeves.
At The Wren Design, we produce a unique range of contemporary hand-crafted bags. By transforming found materials into contemporary items, we are able to deliver a product that is appealing and eco-friendly without compromising on quality.
The first Wren bags used traditional fabrics, but the idea of repurposing found materials including paper, coffee sacks, cotton rice bags and antique linen was a watershed moment for the company. It is an innovation that has proved highly successful. The result is a range of over 100 products that combine simplicity of design with eco-friendly manufacturing methods to produce uniquely eye-catching designer apparel.

Refunds and Exchanges
REFUND TERMS & CONDITIONS:
- The value of the bag will be refunded on receiving the returned bag in the same condition it was posted.
- The returned bag needs to be received (in South Africa) within 30days of it arriving in the country of destination (your country).
- Return shipping is at your cost unless the return is the result of an error on our side (for example, the bag posted was not the bag ordered, or it was sent to the wrong address etc). We are only human and do make mistakes.
► LOST PARCELS: This rarely happens but it would be ignorant to say never. However, come hell or high water we will get your bag to you one way or another.
A parcel can only be called “lost” after 6 weeks. At this point we put in an inquiry with the postal service and give you the option of a full refund or a replacement bag at our cost.
If your order does not arrive within 5-14 working days and you do not want to wait the full 6 weeks before we can put a formal enquiry in and declare the package lost, then we can send you a replacement bag with the agreement from you that when, and if, the original bag does arrive that you will return this bag to us at your expense, or pay for two.
Local parcels sent with the South African Post Office are always insured for their full value. International parcels over 1kg are insured for their full value and parcels under 1kg are claimable from the South African Post Office for a percentage of the value of the item – but do not worry as this is for us to handle. Sadly Asian and most African countries do not offer an insurance option.
Summed up, please get in contact with us if your bag does not arrive so that we can work out a plan forward that will make a sad situation a happy one.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you wish to order a bag that we are out of stock on please send us an email and we will get back to you with lead times. Usually it is about 2 weeks.
♦ NOTE: If you are not 100% happy with how your custom bag order came out you are not obliged to buy it. ☺
► WASHING INSTRUCTIONS:
*Organic Coffee Sling Bags: This bag is washable but when it comes out of the wash, it might look different to how it went in. Some of the sack dye (the print) has not been fixed and runs when wet. If you have a cream lined bag it will show but on the other colours, it does not. The choice is yours. You can wash it but the print might run and I cannot be responsible for this.
You can pull the inside (the lining) out from this bag and wash that by hand separately without getting the jute wet and risking that the print run.
*Antique Linen & Leather Bags: Wash the linen bag in a pillow case in your washing machine on a quick wash with fabric softener. Do not soak. To dry you can either lay it flat and allow it to dry slowly but often this results in the linen drying stiff. To avoid this tumble dry the bag in a pillow case.
► NOTE: Please please, do not copy the Wren bag designs, patterns or text. We have spent many hours getting it just right so that we can give you the best quality and would really appreciate your support in turn.
Items are not for re-sale without exclusive license from Wren.
► WHOLESALE: The Wren Design does supply wholesale at request. For inquiries please contact us at info [!at] thewrendesign.com.
