About

Want to add a modern, fun, sophisticated touch to your mailings? Look no further than The Wright Hand!

Greetings! My name is Katie Wright and I am working towards my PhD in Art History. For years the margins of my class notebooks have been overflowing with my typographic doodles: script, calligraphy, block lettering, you name it!

In 2011, as I began to design and address my wedding invitations—now featured on Martha Stewart Weddings and Refinery29—it finally hit me! It was time to bring the numerous hand drawn fonts I had developed over the years out of the pages of my notebooks and into your mailbox.

And thus The Wright Hand was born. Here you can find a font style that will fit every event—from weddings to birthdays to holidays—and beautify every mailing. I am here to help you realize your vision, so each order is customized to suit your individual wishes. Have questions? Feel free to send me a note here on Etsy. After all, I do love mail.

I am an art history doctoral student based in New York City. I love polka dots, balloons, modern art and, of course, typography. I write a daily art and design blog called 'the obsessive imagist' (www.theobsessiveimagist.com). Nice to meet you!

Why, hello there! Welcome to The Wright Hand, where my abiding love of snail mail meets my endless obsession with typography. Here I offer to hand-address your announcement, invitation or greeting card envelopes in the various specialty calligraphy and sans serif font styles I have developed over the years.

What makes The Wright Hand different from the countless other wedding calligraphers out there? First off, I offer a wide selection of modern sans serif fonts not found in traditional calligraphy shops. Secondly, my love affair with philately and training in graphic design means I will take every aspect of your envelope design into account—playing off the style of the card inside, consulting on vintage vs. modern stamps, and returning the finished product in a perfectly, joyously colorful packaging.

I can promise every detail of your mailing will be taken into account and the mailbox of each and every recipient will be prettier as a result.

Returns and exchanges
A proof of each custom envelope order is provided to ensure that you are happy with the design as it looks on your envelopes; this serves to mitigate any unforeseen problems down the line. The proof, however, is only a representative sample, and subsequent envelopes in the order will follow this design guideline as best as possible given the changing constraints of varying addresses, recipient names, etc.

For whatever reason if you find yourself unsatisfied with the final please message me within one week of receiving the product and I will happily work with you to find a suitable solution that results in envelopes as beautiful as you imagined.
Payment
Because each order is painstakingly catered to your custom needs and requires countless hours of labor on my part, payment is required in full up front. By purchasing one of my sample listings you reserve a spot on my calendar to execute your project. Since this takes my time away from other potential clients, cancellations (made before I begin addressing the envelopes) will only be granted on a case by case basis.

Please see below for more information in the refunds section.
Shipping
Shipping prices are customized to the size of your envelope order and to the destination and therefore vary considerably. Each custom order will cite a custom shipping cost but mailing tends to range between $8 - $10 for destinations inside the United States and $15 - $20 for destinations abroad.

Unless otherwise requested by the client all packages ship Priority Mail USPS (in the US) or First Class (outside the US) with tracking; I require that envelopes sent to me for addressing be mailed with tracking as well.
