⭐️ Welcome to The Yarn Genie ⭐️
✨ Knitting patterns for a natural childhood ✨
🧞♀️ WHO IS THE YARN GENIE? 🧞♀️
We are Nikki and Jo. Two mums who bonded at the school gate over a love of yarn! We are inspired by our children. Their innocence and their vivid imaginations. They love fairytales and recreating stories. Playing outside (whatever the weather). They love make-believe, dressing up, fairies and magical creatures.
We sit alongside and watch. And knit. And drink tea. The ideas flowing from them become conversation between us and those conversations turn into designs.
Fairytale knitwear, inspired by the greatest imaginations we know.
🌟 BUT WHY ARE THE PATTERNS MAGICAL? 🌟
Nikki really is a genie when it comes to knitting. She writes up our patterns to be really helpful. Not just full instructions on how to create the items, but also descriptions of how to follow the directions and section of techniques used with pictures and step by step instructions. Great for novice knitters and crocheters, or if you just need a bit of extra help. But it still works for the experienced!

5 out of 5 starsThese instructions are so detailed, including photos, and really well written, so easy to follow. It's worth it just for the Magic Loop instruction! The cozies are very cute and I love the idea of using them as wrist warmers. Thanks!

5 out of 5 starsIt was so much fun to make this hood. My 4 years old son loves it! I made a child size for him though. The 3-5 y size is too small for him.

About TheYarnGenie
-
Nikki, our magic knitting genie, and her lovely husband and daughter, who can often be seen modelling our creations!
I want to help you create something great, and maybe try something new at the same time!
I learned to knit when I was young, from my mother and my much adored and very talented grandmother. Granny could knit, crochet, and stitch almost anything. I wanted to create beautiful work, just like her - I watched, and slowly, I learned. It was a time when we still made our own clothes, and knitted lovely things. I got involved with the local theatre, and found a passion for creating the bizarre and larger than life costumes for the annual pantomimes - an illuminated pagoda dress, a 20ft wrap around flag skirt, trousers and boots for a 20ft high giant - I loved the challenge!
Into the eighties, buying ready to wear clothes was the norm now, and I had a burgeoning career in computers, so I did less and less and less with yarn and fabric. And slowly I forgot the joy of creativity.
Then, just a few years ago, came my daughter, a small genie blessing, and through her I found slow, gentle parenting, and rediscovered my real passion for creating. Now I am rarely without needles or hooks in hand, yarn in my pocket, and a head full of ideas.
My designs are inspired by my small daughter - what she enjoys and what her friends love. They like nature and animals, they like beautiful, pretty and cute things. There is an innocence in their view of the world, and a belief that we can all do whatever we want. I work to embrace that in what I do. We live in the Cotswolds, in the UK. An area of great beauty and big landscapes. We rarely visit the city, and the beautiful English countryside is our home. I am heavily influenced by the natural world, as well as making pretty and cute things. I use all natural materials wherever possible, and often work in naturalistic colours.
I like to make small achievable projects so that we can all believe in our ability to create, as we move on to tackle whatever challenges we choose to set ourselves. I am a great believer in "everyone can achieve this if they want to" - so my patterns contain lengthy explanations, and technique sections with lots of pictures to explain 'how'. Many of my patterns are quite simple and really great for beginners - lots of help to create something pretty, which will, I hope, lead you on to other, more ambitious projects. And some patterns are more complex, where I hope that you will be inspired to try something a new - I give as much support as I can, and I love to celebrate YOUR successes in tackling a new technique or style. You are very welcome to get in touch if you need some more support.
