About

This creative mother and daughter team offer works of needle, paint brush and more.

I'm Michelle and I began Third Coast Craftworks in 2007 as an outlet to sell my mom's hand-knitted scarves and my original paintings. We are now adding new works. My mom (Mary) has recently retired and her knitting needles are on fire! I have been vigorously painting as well and will be posting new pieces soon!

I'm Mary and I've heated up my knitting needles since retiring at the end of June 2012. I'm very happy to now have more time to be creative. My interest in knitting and crafts is based on a few special words: Family, Comfort and Contentment, and Thankfulness.

Family: Grandma Mamie, Mother Ruth, Aunt Caroline, Sister Sue, Niece Caroline, and Daughter Michelle, have been my teachers and inspiration. I'm becoming my grandmother, mother and aunt in desiring to make all types of handmade things. Aunt Caroline's career was teaching knitting in yarn shops; she and my grandma created intricate knitted items including doilies, lace ornaments, baby sweaters, children's hats with matching purses and complicated clothing items such as afghans, plaid skirts and lined coats. My mother was an exceptional knitter and seamstress; she made clothing for her seven children and when they were older, was employed as a professional seamstress. The adults in my family thought my sister and I would learn well from others, so they enrolled us in 4-H where we learned the basics. My sister followed in my mother's footsteps and is an accomplished knitter and seamstress. Today, my niece searches for special knitting patterns and has the patience for completing difficult projects. She is also an all-around creative artist having specialized as a potter in college. My Etsy partner and daughter is an accomplished artist who creates oil paintings and loves photography. For my knitting projects, I've learned much from her sense of composition and love for color collages. She has both a college major in studio art and art history.

Comfort and Contentment: Working with my hands has given me comfort and contentment throughout my life. I aim for excellence and mistakes do not bother me because I am willing, as my earlier teachers, to take things apart and begin again. Being able to make something from nothing helps me to be content with what I have and allows me to be "green" in the process. Knitting is a comfort to me and I love to create items that bring comfort to others.

Thankfulness: The name of my company, Found Ewe Creations, speaks of my thankfulness to God for my friends and family, my health, and, most importantly, for finding me, knowing my name, and calling me His child. Blessings, creative friends!

In my work I emphasize quality, integrity and spontaneity. My media of choice are oil painting, sculpture and photography. For me, the three disciplines borrow from each other making each one stronger! Art is my gift and I try not to waste it!

I learned to knit when I was in 5th grade and am still learning new techniques - love the YouTube tutorials. I am drawn to projects in which I can be creative by combining yarn, colors and patterns. Currently, my grandchildren inspire my choices.
