About ThistleBeePottery

One little smile can lift 1,000 lbs. You just never know who needs it more so give a smile to everyone. Hopefully, my creations do just that!

Knock knock!
Who's there?
Thistle!
Thistle who?
Thistle be the last Knock Knock!

When mulling over what to call our shop I wanted to celebrate my heritage. So the English rose and Scottish thistle were in the forefront of trying to come up with something clever. Then this Knock Knock popped into my head. When we were kids my sister would repeat it over and over blending the end into the beginning so it was the joke that never ends. And she added a little tune with it that got super glued into my memory. And here we are!

I love playing in the mud! Whether it's working in our garden or making crazy cute clay critters. I caught the pottery "bug" first then passed it on to my husband, Craig. He built a VERY small studio in a corner of our garage. It's a little tight but I love that we have our own creative space. My dream is to have a studio large enough so we can give pottery classes and have a gallery/shop.

We were both raised in the "Garden" part of the Garden State (NJ) and with a heavy dose of Monty Python-esque humor. Nothing inspires me more than Mother Nature and a good belly laugh.

I took my first pottery class 20 years ago and was hooked. Then I got pregnant and had to stop the classes because I couldn't belly up to the wheel anymore. Then the babies came. Not all at once but every 2 years. Pottery was just a memory. Then six years ago I stumbled onto a pottery studio while looking for painting classes. I was soon re-hooked.

We now have 3 young men and our adult nephew under one roof and the testosterone levels can get pretty overwhelming. That's when I quietly disappear into the studio, turn on the ipod and get muddy.

Pottery is my passion and my therapy all wrapped up in an ancient, creative and ever challenging art form. It took me over 40 years to find my place in the universe and it's here in the mud that I'm home.

Isaiah 64:8
"Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand."
