About

Thread Caravan // Global Artisan Adventures

Thread Caravan got it's start in June 2015 with the launch of it's global artisan workshops. Founder Caitlin Ahern was working in the fairtrade field to incorporate her love of creativity and sewing with her love of social work. While working with fairtrade companies, she realized a disconnect between the makers and the consumers. People purchasing fairtrade goods knew they were helping in some way by making their purchase, but often didn't know who or how their purchase was helping. Thus, Caitlin launched Thread Caravan, a travel company that hosts artisan adventures around the world, connecting travelers to the makers. The idea is that when people get to connect with the artisans, learn from them and actually practice the art at hand, they will have a greater appreciation for the process and thus for the good they are purchasing.

Thread Caravan works to promote quality and value. We work to preserve cultural art forms and empower indigenous artisans.

We currently offer a weaving trip to Guatemala and a mezcal-making trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. Come #jointhecaravan !
