Announcement   Natural history is my primary inspiration, but I also really like charming vintage-inspired patterns that remind me of my mother's 1940s childhood. I use sturdy fabrics that require no special laundry care. My images are original, and usually sketched from live material directly onto the fabric with a great, sharp pencil used in plant surveys. All of my embroidery is by hand and I have no idea how to operate a sewing machine. I certainly respect people who do. Thanks for stopping by, and if you'd like a certain plant, animal (or whatever) embroidered, just ask. I'm pretty amenable, and I enjoy what I do.

Precious whimsical design, one of a kind. Hand made. The kind of item you pass down to your kids. Also high quality towel and shipped very quickly. Love it.

The sun finally came out today so I was able to sit on my porch with coffee to finish my green darner dragonfly napkins. Perfect for the spring table!

My sister sent me a new shipment of her precious Santa ornaments recently. About to set up a listing for three mini Santa ornaments made from much smaller crab shells. These big shells make great Santas!

About

Little Stitches

Several years ago, my mother taught me how to embroider little patterns onto kitchen towels. I stitched all kinds of vintage patterns of pots and pans onto tea towels as Christmas gifts, using the tea towels to wrap up banana and pumpkin breads. I fell in love with the old His and Hers series of patterns widely available even after 50 years since their inception. I embroidered everything I could for friends and family. When I couldn't find any patterns of wildflowers or frogs that looked more realistic, I decided to learn how to sketch and stitch images from nature. I was encouraged by a colleague at my job as an ecologist to open an Etsy shop in 2009. I've really enjoyed making special orders and hearing from folks like Joanne who wrote "I've been looking for an embroidered toad for years!" I love antique hand embroidery, I still seek out antique shops and pick it up for my collection. I hope people treasure what I make for them as much as I love finding unique pieces in antique shops and in my mother's attic.

Natural history is my passion, and I enjoy stitching images from the natural world in my rare spare time. My mother taught me embroidery and my stitches will never be as tiny as hers, but my images are all original...
