Tierra Sol Studio creates happy and minimal small batch ceramics, studio grown cacti, and terrariums—for plant killers who are plant lovers.

Plant care is a lost art. And most people are set up for failure…

The number one reason people kill their plants is due to:

1. The soil
Most cacti and succulents sold in the US come in powdery soil that (doesn't exist in nature) clumps around roots and slides right out of those plastic cups. This soil begins to hold water against roots and rot them as soon as you water them. Cacti and other succulents are desert plants that need non-clumping gritty soil.

2. The container
Another way to facilitate replication of the desert environment is to place cacti and succulents into absorbant pots like ours or terra cotta.

Have you ever noticed:
- How plants are glued down or spray painted at home improvement stores?
- The stores discounted dying plant sale sections?
- Or that the plants for sale already look half dead?
- Are the cheapest kind of succulents that are delicate and should only be living in an Arizona desert?
- How plant shops try to upsell you on fancy misters that don't replicate the natural environment of the plant?
- How people mix plants that don't naturally go together -or- place plants in glass containers that hold in too much moisture for desert plants?

We want your plants to live forever and have spent years making that possible. We (Yair + Seana) started Tierra Sol Studio because we couldn’t keep anything alive.

Plants improve focus and are scientifically proven to make us happy, but we couldn’t grow any in our small dark apartment while Seana was in graduate school. She began to study plants and their needs with the same dedication as her graduate research. We began to find the hardiest plants, conduct experiments, and would track which plants survived her being away for many months during fieldwork. Seana had made pottery since she was a kid and spent time working out how to create the best environment for each plant type.

We use only the highest quality and lowest maintenance plants. We grow most of our plants at our studio. I craft each ceramic piece with my own hands and often paint them with a variety of flat pastel glaze techniques. I fire each planter using an unconventional method to make pots that are terra cotta and best fit the needs of each plant.

Which plants are best for you?
- Do you have a room with low sun or high sun?
Our succulents (and cacti) need one teaspoon of water per month and we only use plants that thrive in low sun or in high amounts of sun.

- Do you have a room or office with low sun or no sun at all?
Our moss terrariums require no sunlight and get watered once every six months!

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
  • Items on sale
Returns and exchange details
If you have any questions, concerns, or your item arrived other than expected, please contact us right away and we will do our best to make you happy. If you are still unsatisfied, you may return the unused, undamaged item within 7 days of receipt, and we will refund the purchase price. We cannot refund shipping costs or pay for return shipping. Return items but be shipped within 7 days of delivery and must be in the same condition as it was upon arrival. Returns must be packaged with the same care as it was shipped. Read below for more details.

Any plants traveling through temperatures below 40 degrees must ship with a heat pack (available for purchase through our shop). If packages traveled through these temperatures and arrived with a damaged plant, we cannot replace or refund the order, but plants may be repurchased. If there are no problems with your order due to our error you may return it, but may be charged a restocking fee to cover the time of our shipper.

Since all of our items are handmade and unique, there may be slight variations in size, color, or shape. We recreate pieces as close to the photo as possible.

We ship orders as quickly as possible. We can only process cancellations on the same day the order is placed and - only - if the order has not been started. Any orders that are in the packing process and are canceled may have a shipper restocking fee.

Again, in the rare case that a piece is damaged in transit, please take a photo of the damaged item and box and contact me within 24 hours. We are happy to replace any items that have been damaged due to our error as long as you contact us within 24 hours of receiving the item.

For living items: We only grow and use the highest quality and most hardy plants and spend each day caring for them until they arrive at their destination. Since we can no longer care for the living plants once they arrive at their destination, in the rare case that something happens to them after they arrive, refunds cannot be provided. We provide easy care instructions for each of our low maintenance plant and moss varieties. In the rare case that something happens to your plants or moss, we do have replacements available should you need. If something happens to any of your items during shipping, let me know within 24 hours and I will do our best to replace the item with an exact or similar match that meets your expectations.

We wait for each package to be scanned in by hand at the USPS. Once the post office receives your package, USPS is responsible for it. The person who placed the order or receiver is responsible for contacting the post office about lost or late packages. The USPS needs specific details about the home and package drop location from the receiver in order to process their search in the case of a lost or late package.

Tierra + Sol ships items using insured Priority Mail and First Class to ensure that your items arrive quickly. A tracking number will be emailed to you when your item has shipped!

We have a rush shipping option for processing your order and delivering it to the post office within 24 hours! We also offer shipping upgrades during check out including Priority (3 days with 24hr Rush Order listing) and Express (1-2 days with 24hr Rush Order listing).

All items are packed to ensure a safe arrival and are always beautifully packaged to be ready for gifting whether you are treating yourself or someone else.

Plant and Terrarium Shipping:
- Moss: Our moss has no expiration and date and can stay packaged well through the holidays!

- Succulents/Cacti: Succulents, including cacti, should be unpacked within three days of receiving the item to allow for sun, but they do not need to be assembled in the planter if you would like for the receiver to have the fun of assembling.

- Marimo can be left packaged for 3-4 weeks after the package is received.

Plants and planters and terrariums with moving parts are shipped disassembled so that they do not shift while shipped. Each comes with easy and fun instructions for assembly and care. Please check your package for all pieces of your order.

In the rare case there is damage in transit please let me know within 24 hours of delivery and include a photo. We will do our best to send a replacement part(s) that are exact, or very similar to, the item(s) you ordered. Please contact us right away if this should happen. (See Returns and Exchanges for more information)

Change shipping address after purchase - We have a very small window of time in which we can change your shipping address before a package is shipped. Please contact us immediately if you need to change your shipping address. We will try our best to change it for you but cannot guarantee a change in shipping. Should the address change not go through, you can reroute your package by calling the local post office for your original shipping address.

All of our orders are beautifully packaged and ready to be given as gifts. We are happy to send gift messages! We will not include a receipt unless otherwise specified. Just let us know that the purchase is a gift and what message you would like to include in the notes section during your purchase and we will hand write your message on a gift note!
