Announcement   Hi, I'm Suzy Mae, and I'm a Mama to 5 girls aged between 4 and 18 years.

I live in a little village halfway between Sherwood Forest and the sea!

I love to create, simple, gentle spirited, Waldorf inspired crafts.

I like to use locally sourced, simple, eco-friendly and organic materials.

I hope that every piece that I create carries a little bit of story in it's fibres.
I like to imagine, as I work, that a story is being woven through my hands.

I believe that all things emanate an energy.
So when I create I create with both love and respect for the natural world of woodland and meadow as well as the inner world of a child's imagination.

As roots nourish leaves I hope that working from an ethic grounded in respect for nature and the heart will come through my work.

I hope it comes through as a warmth; something tangible which can be transmitted through the fabric of the work itself.
I am sure that a part of me is still a child and maybe that is why I love what I do :)

Please convo me or e-mail me if you have any questions.

About

tilly tilda - Evoking Childhood

Almost all of my work has once been a dream. Not necessarily a sleeping dream, but something on the periphery of my vision in waking hours.
Each creation seemed to me something that needed to become "real;" or maybe "loved real" like the Skin Horse in the story of the Velveteen Rabbit would say.
One part vision, one part whimsy, one part the child in my arms and the last part my own childhood heart.
What I create is an essence of all these things fused together expressed in form.

Every piece carries a little bit of story in it's fibres.
As I create, a story is being woven through my hands.
That is why each and every doll is unique and their characters become so alive for me.
I hope that this translates. Especially for the children who will play with them.

I start every single piece from scratch. A handful of simple fibres, that enliven and quicken my heart and ignite the embers of a dream.

I remember, as a child I had many plastic toys but the toys that meant the most to me were the ones who could carry a little of my own heart in them.
The soft, quirky, natural toys... My woolen jumble sale rabbit with the sad, blue glass eyes.... my knitted doll... my threadbare cloth teddy.

These characters nourished my inner life.
So many toys, these days seem to keep the child lost in mind or ego or both.
I love that innocence of old fashioned toys, homemade, handmade toys; they nurture the heart and soul of a child.

My art prints are also created with the same philosophy; with the hope of engaging a child's heart or the inner child of the adult. They are drawn from story and I hope, inspire story. They are from that land of far away that is the realm of childhood.

I think that is another reason why I love creating my art.
It evokes the child in me. It's a happy place to be :)
