Custom Order Information

The information outlined below represents our custom order guidelines.

My preference would be that you choose designs that have already been created, as I've banned "create it from scratch" orders in the past due to their time requirements and complexity. That said however I also recognize that many of you have design ideas of your own, and I'm happy to work with you to bring them to life. "Create it from scratch" customs are inherently more difficult than off the shelf designs, and will be priced accordingly. We can discuss pricing once I understand the scope of the work, with the price mutually agreed upon prior to starting.

If you are in need of artwork in order to create your "create it from scratch" design, please use Shutterstock, as this is where I purchase many of my designs from. For security reasons, I'm not going to download artwork from a site that I know nothing about. Say for example you need a butterfly. In the search bar, your keywords would be butterfly, black, vector. I live in a black and white world as it relates to the laser, it doesn't do colors, artwork must be black and white. For any artwork that we purchase on your behalf, the cost of said artwork will be added to the price of the stick. This particular search (butterfly black vector) returned 430 pages of butterfly designs, so, you should have no trouble finding an image that you like.

When requesting a custom order, initially please just tell me through an ETSY conversation that you would like to be on the custom list. When your name is approaching the top of the list I'll send you a note and we can begin hammering out the details. It's not unusual for me to have 2 or 3 sticks that I'm working on that are in various stages of progress. If you see a custom order posted as reserved for an individual that may be behind you on the list, just know that yours is close, it was just at a different stage of being finished. Please feel free to ask how much the stick is going to cost up front. I openly admit that I'm terrible about giving the price up front. I always forget, because at that point my mind is much more focused on the specifics of your stick, not the price, so again, feel free to ask.

I'm happy to do multiple orders, but bear in mind that we only ship 2 sticks per box. So, from a shipping standpoint and maximizing your shipping dollar, it makes the most sense to request customs in multiples of 2.

Repairs - We recognize that life happens, cats, dogs, kids etc., and that repairs are occasionally needed. For years we have performed the majority of repairs at no charge, however given the number of sticks floating around worldwide, there is a potentially large pool of repairs that we could be facing and we can no longer commit to free repairs. Free or minimal charge repairs will apply only to original owners. Repair charges for 2nd hand or "swap board" owners will be quoted individually and pricing will be based upon the estimated time to perform the repair.

Hair sticks are packaged in a size appropriate box wrapped carefully in a velvet gift bag and bubble wrap, shipped USPS first class mail.

Refunds - Refunds will only be issued for poor quality workmanship, and we must be notified within 24 hours of your intent to return the item for poor quality workmanship. With this being said, we have never had a return.

International orders are welcome with packages mailed USPS international first class mail, and can take anywhere from 5 days to 3 months for delivery depending upon postal conditions and customs. While we don't like the delivery time frame any more than our international customers do, it is what it is and we have no control over it. If your order is missing, we ask that you allow 90 days to elapse before we begin discussion on replacement sticks. If after 90 days the stick(s) still haven't arrived, we will replace the sticks at one half of their original cost, and we will pay for the shipping. In doing so, we both share equally in the loss, a loss that was out of everyone's control. We've found this to be the fairest solution to an otherwise unwanted situation.

**Note** Occasionally we have found that some gemstone inlays, feel as if they have expanded above the surface of the wood. What has happened is that the wood has contracted due to humidity/temperature fluctuations, whereas the gemstone inlays are not affected by humidity and temperature. This is a naturally occurring event inasmuch as ALL wood expands and contracts, and we have no control over this. If you encounter this issue, we would be happy to re-work the stick to its original smoothness, but please recognize that it may happen again. Since this is a "Mother Nature" issue vs. a workmanship issue, I will sand and re-finish the stick at a cost of 1/2 of the sticks original purchase price plus shipping.

Welcome to Timberstone Turnings, we appreciate you taking the time to visit.

With over 14 years of "turning" experience, Doug has been primarily focused on hair sticks since our shop opening in 2009. With a true passion for his craft, Doug is constantly searching for new methods and designs in order to make tomorrow's sticks better than today's. Each stick is hand made on a lathe, with the designs engraved by laser. Gemstones are filtered to the appropriate inlay size and are ground, sanded and polished to a near "glass" finish.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
Returns and exchange details
Refunds - Refunds will only be issued for poor quality workmanship, and we must be notified within a reasonable time frame (14 days) of your intent to return the item for poor quality workmanship. We do not entertain returns because you've changed your mind.
Payment
Payments can be made through PayPal or through direct checkout with a valid credit card.

Payment for purchases is expected prior to shipping unless other arrangements have been made and agreed upon by both parties.

Barring previously agreed to payment arrangements, payments not received within a reasonable period of time (24 hours) will be grounds for sale cancellation, and the item may be re-listed for sale.
Shipping
Hair sticks are shipped USPS. There will be additional charges if overnight delivery is required.

International orders are shipped USPS first class and can take anywhere from 5 days to 2 months. Due to the cost involved, they are not insured unless requested by the buyer and will incur additional shipping charges. We are not responsible for undelivered items, as this aspect is completely out of our control, however we can provide the Customs Declaration tracking number if needed.
