I first tried my hand at papercutting when I was in year 10 during high school. I was inspired after seeing a fellow student's papercut artwork displayed on the art room wall. Those early attempts were largely experimental and unfinished, and I preferred using black paper on a background painted with watercolours.
I began working in this medium consistently in 2009 when I made some papercut numbers for a friend's wedding. After that I began creating more and more pieces and my friends began commissioning me to create papercut art as gifts for their friends. It has been an amazing journey and at this point I've created papercuts wedding gifts, personalized journals, pendant jewellery and bookmarks!
I use an NT Cutter which has a smaller blade than an X-Acto knife to get the level of detail I want in my papercuts. Designs are drawn onto the back of the paper and cut by hand. I enjoy making my papercuts as intricate as I can, and to push the boundaries of the paper to create the finest lines. What I enjoy most about papercutting is how meditative the process can be! Also to come up with new and elegant designs that are both functional and fun!
