Announcement   *GOOD NEWS! My dear friend Anna, owner of Calico Farm Chick store on Etsy, is expanding her fiber business to include handmade laceweight stone whorl drop spindles! I'm pleased and proud of Anna's accomplishments in the fiber and spinning world, and am glad to be able to send my laceweight drop spindle customers to her - she's a wonderful friend, incredible woman, and superb artisan supporting the fiber arts! My husband and I are doing a bit more "retirement work" now, so I'll be concentrating on my woodworking making supported spindles and nostepinnes, vintage items, and my re-discovered love for watercolor painting, something I'd given up during my military career.

We hope to be your source of hand-turned wooden spinning and knitting tools! I started by raising champion Satin Angora show rabbits, using their fiber for spinning - that activity led me to build my own lightweight spindles for spinning laceweight and the finest of fibers. I'm a retired military officer, and am now a part-time woodworker on my husband's family farm in NE Washington State, USA, making hand-turned spinning and fiber arts tools out of locally-sourced wood.

We'd love to help you find the perfect spinning tool, and we always offer a 100% guarantee - we will fix your item if it ever breaks at our cost, we'll replace an item if you'd like, or we'll give you a 100% guarantee (full purchase price plus shipping costs)! Please note that our only negative feedback was given to us by a customer several days AFTER they were given a 100% refund after they felt our spindle did not spin to their satisfaction, so we realize that we can't satisfy everyone! And, if you aren't satisfied or can't find what you like, please look around Etsy, as there are so many lovely fiber arts suppliers here! God bless all of you in your fiber arts projects!

Buyer complained that I had not sent a tracking number, so I gave her a 100% refund. She posted this review after I gave her a full refund and apologized for not having sent her a tracking number immediately upon shipping. I hereby apologize a second time, publicly, for having inconvenienced this customer by not sending her a tracking number on the date of shipping - I have no excuses for not meeting her shipping requirements. The package was indeed shipped and the tracking number was provided to the customer upon her request, but I should have sent her the tracking number the day of shipping.

About

Irish Rose Woodcraft

After retiring from the military, my husband and I moved back to Washington state, to his family's farm. I began making spindles to help support my "Angora rabbit habit," and when my husband was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease and went on home dialysis, I decided to get serious about my Etsy store. It's named for a friend who originally was my Angora rabbit show partner, who has since found marriage and motherhood, so I now run "Tina's Angoras" with my husband, Merrill. We both are wood-turners, using our own mini-lathes (I use a Jet, and Merrill uses a Delta) to make spindles, spinning bowls, nostepinnes, and more!

Our woodshop was originally the farm's garage, so our cars are now outside, and we're just a few steps from our 100+ year old farmhouse in NE Washington State, USA. We specialize in spindles designed for finer fibers, mainly laceweight, as that fits my own preferences to spin Angora, alpaca, and fine wools! And, we like to recreate historically-correct spindles - we may not be very artistic in our wood-turning, but we try to be correct in our spindle styles, and love to help design that perfect spindle for our customers. As business grew, I acquired an Ashford wide drum carder, as I give out free samples of fiber to spindle customers - I now enjoy preparing raw fiber, including some basic hand-dyeing, and carding batts. I try to use more unusual fibers, as I get a bit tired of the same old fiber - I hope to get more people to try fibers such as Teeswater, Angora, and more! I no longer have my Angora rabbits, due to family care issues, but friends now have my lovely Angoras, so I can still enjoy their fiber!

  • Anne

    Owner, Creator

I'm a retired Army officer who is addicted to fiber arts! From raising champion Angora show rabbits, to simply working with fiber, I love to make hand-turned spinning and knitting tools for my retirement occupation, and also card fiber and spin!

  • Merrill

    Maker

My husband, Merrill, is my main woodworker - I have almost no carpentry skills, so he prepares my wood "blanks" for me, getting wood cut into usable pieces to mount on the lathe. He also makes most of our spinning bowls.

  • Christine

    Assistant

Christine is my sister-in-law, and lives in Bend, OR, where she works as a college professor of Botany and Biology. She's been a woodworker for many years, and is now a wood-turner for us!

  • Sharon Borgford

    Creator

Sharon is a life-long resident of northeastern Washington. She grew up on a farm, and her interest in art and natural sciences led to a bachelor's degree in earth sciences/geology and her artistic skill as a lapidary, jewelry artist, and painter.

Shipping
I try to ship within 1 business day following orders for items in stock. My husband is a transplant patient, so we have frequent medical appointments that sometimes require hospitalization - if this occurs, I will contact buyers to ensure that they approve any shipping delays that might occur, and will refund 100% if the delay is unacceptable to the customer. So far, we've not had more than a day or 2 delay due to medical issues.
Refunds and Exchanges
100% guarantee - a full refund if you're not satisfied, or if the item arrives damaged!
