About

About Tin Can Sally Switch Plates Made From Old Tin Cans

My journey in art began as soon as I could doodle. My media was crayons and my canvas was my bedroom wall. My first masterpiece was my last, but once I discovered paper, I traded my crayons for a pencil and began cartooning.

I studied art in high school, commercial art at Endicott College and studio art at Manhattanville College. While at Manhattanville, I became interested in 3-dimensional design and sculpture, which landed me a job, after graduation, as a production artist for pop art master Charles Fazzino.

I quickly became Fazzino's top performing artist, which led to working exclusively on his original paintings, making them three-dimensional masterpieces. Although I had great pride in my creations, I became increasingly frustrated I was creating art that wasn't mine. I wanted my own creations.

After 12 years, I decided to make a change in both my career and my surroundings. I left New York and headed for the Southern Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire area. Inspired by the architecture and rich history in the area and in the midst of a metalworking course, I stumbled upon old tins in my garage. I cut them up and, after a little research and product development, I created Tin Can Sally in 2004.

I believe my experiences in my journey as an artist is reflected in my work, including my early days as a cartoonist. Every switch plate is carefully arranged graphically and if I can find humor in it, I will!

Additional policies and FAQs
CUSTOM ORDER POLICIES:

1) ALL CUSTOM ORDERS must be placed separate from purchases made from our shop unless you contact us PRIOR TO YOUR PURCHASE.

2) CUSTOM ORDERS CANNOT BE CHANGED AFTER THE ITEM HAS BEEN MADE: Note we provide photos of tins and pans we will use to create your switch plate prior to making it for your approval. We simply do not have unlimited material to allow for changes after your custom switch plate has been made. Once you approve the material, it cannot be changed and you will be obligated to follow through with your order.

3) CUSTOMER PROVIDED MATERIAL: We hold all tins and pans you send us for 21 days pending your final order. We provide photos of layouts for your approval by email. If you do not respond to finalize your order, we will claim ownership of the material on the 22nd day. When your order is complete, we ask for payment. If you do not pay or respond to our email reminders, we will claim ownership of the finished switch plate(s) on the 22nd day after the day the invoice was generated.

4) CUSTOM ORDERS USING MATERIAL FROM OUR INVENTORY: We email you when your custom order is ready for purchase. We expect payment within 4 days. On the 5th day, if payment or communication has not been received, the custom order goes into our inventory and is offered for sale on all of our websites.

CUSTOMER PROVIDED PHOTOS: We might use your photos showing the switch plates in your home or business on this and other websites, for advertising or in the media. We assume permission when you share your photos, but will gladly keep your photos private if you contact us by email.

ADDITIONAL THINGS TO KNOW:

Since tins are very hard to find, my prices are not negotiable. I do not offer quantity discounts, sorry! Please realize these are highly collectible and most unique. We also cannot offer these wholesale to stores.

Please do not purchase a switch plate and then ask me to change it! Most of my products are one-of-a-kind and they cannot be changed WITHOUT prior approval. Sometimes we do have another tin to work with, often we do not. If you buy and request the switch plate be changed (example you buy a double but want it as a single) we will we will send you the item you purchased. Please understand our switch plates are unique and are often not available except as pictured. We encourage questions and requests!

GIFT SHIPMENTS: Due to the unethical practice of drop shipping without permission, we no longer send shipments without an itemized receipt that shows the price you paid.

We will consider requests to hold items for no longer than 72 hours. Please contact us!

SCREWS ARE NOT INCLUDED. Switches and plugs not included.

All edges are filed smooth by hand.

We also have blank switch plates for those switches your electrician removed from your house. We have some in-stock push button switch plates, as well as the ability to make single, double and triple switch plates for you.

We can also make quad or 4 toggle switch plates by request (prices start at $45.99).

Please let us know if you need any of these less popular switch plates.

Unusual configurations are our specialty! We work closely with you to find the perfect tin for your wacky switches and outlets. Please contact us for more information.

License plate key chains are limited availability, these are old stock and we no longer make these so we cannot accept custom orders.
