Sorry for not leaving a review earlier. My grandma likes her scarf and is already planning outfits to wear with it.

About

It began with a bead store

We started Tiny Bits of Craft as a Mother-Daughter business in the 90s by taking a trip to a bead store and falling in love with beads and re-falling in love with being creative. But at that time, I (Diane, the daughter) was still in school and Gail (the mother) was teaching and as life got busy, our business got put on hold. Fast forward about 20 years to 2012 when we started Tiny Bits of Craft again.

This time--it began with a phone call.

As I (Diane) was still living overseas, I started to dream of what living home in the states would look like, and I knew it had to involve creativity--so I called my mom Gail who had just recently retired from teaching. "Mom," I said, "I was thinking of re-starting Tiny Bits of Craft... Are you in?" After some time of consideration, we were both on board and excited about being creative together again. We were also excited to see where our dreams and creations would take us!

The 20 years of being inactive with our business allowed time and space for us to let our creative juices percolate with different creative endeavors: knitting & crocheting, jewelry making, quilting, and so on. Both of us bring different styles, tastes, creative angles, and expertises to our creations. Each item may be the work of either one or the collaboration of both of us and every item is made with the love of a mother-daughter team.

As we began to create our hairpin lace scarves and accessories, we started to create our our stitches, patterns, and designs that are unique to us. The idea of a new stitch often happens either while we are playing with yarn or when trying to go to sleep, and then it is tried out that next morning. Thus, bringing a new ounce of creativity into an old already 'tried and done' art. If someone were to listen in on our conversations we have while working together, they might hear soft music in the background and the exclamation of: "Oh look at this new technique/stitch/idea I just had--what do you think?"

This dream to create together has been an amazing adventure so far! Thanks for being witness to it!

A small history of "Hairpin Lace":
Hairpin lace (sometimes referred to as hairpin crochet), although now starting to be revived, began back in victorian times and hit its peak popularity during the 1950s-70s. But it wasn't until the early 1970s that Gail was interested in it. At that time, her grandfather (Diane's Great-grandfather) made her six hairpin lace hand-held looms. (One of which is pictured above.) These six hand-held looms are what we use today to handcraft each and every one of our scarves, most of which are their own original stitches, patterns, and designs that we have created. As hairpin lace begins to have a comeback in popularity, we are glad to be part of the 'comeback movement'.

My grandmother taught me to knit at an early age, and growing up I cherished the doll clothes my mother made for me. Together, they gave me the gift of creativity which I have passed on to my daughter. I love quitling, making jewelry, & crocheting.

Growing up with a creative mom instilled in me a love to create. But due to living overseas--I have not always had the opportunity to be crafty. Now I am excited to live again in my hometown of Eugene and partner with mom in creating.
