And Then She Had a Tiny Mad Idea...

Having grown up as an only child, I learned to enjoy solitude. I spent my time drawing, painting, reading, writing, and pondering the nature of the universe. My mind was always brimming with questions for which no one seemed to have answers, which is probably why I grew into a science geek. My first Bachelor’s was in Geology (1985), second in Nursing Science (1989), and then in 1996 I completed my Master’s in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. In 2008, I finally discovered my true professional calling as a freelance health writer.

Throughout my life, I have found relief from all of the “mind chatter” in art. To this day if I'm not creating something, I feel restless and unsettled—as if I've misplaced an important part of myself.

My professional path, as well as my art, have been guided by my passion for healing. I have transitioned from RN to Reiki Master, from Kundalini yoga student to certified EFT practitioner. I have a special interest in gifts from the earth that can assist us along our healing journey such as natural crystals and gemstones, which has given rise to a unique line of EMF protective jewelry. I have also been a student of A Course in Miracles for most of my life—and therein lies the birthplace of “Tiny Mad Idea.” Please stop by and visit me at www.ValerieBurke.net!
