About TishsStitchingStudio
I have been sewing since I was just a little girl watching the older 4-H girls working on their outfits for dress revue. They tossed me their fabric scraps and I played with them to make doll clothes. My first lessons on sewing were with my Grandma at her treadle machine! I have been sewing my own clothes since fourth grade, and making clothing for my brothers and sister too. I was an active 4-H member and regularly gathered blue ribbons at the Fairs. Aiming for perfection with every stitch has become a habit. All through my high school years, I sewed for the theater productions at school, prom dresses for my friends and me, alterations for my teachers. This gave me a chance to work with all kinds of fabrics and sewing techniques.
As a young mother, I learned to smock and found that I love the dainty look and the geometry of lining up all those stitches. I taught smocking classes, and soon opened a small smocking shop in my home because supplies were not available in my area. I apply those heirloom sewing techniques and hand-sewing details to the doll clothes and bonnets available to you in my shop.
In my 30's, I supported my family by doing alterations for nearby stores. For many years, I worked as the full time tailor in a men's clothing shop. I bring the same attention to detail and quality to my work making doll clothes now.
Now in retirement, I have opened an Etsy shop and do craft shows. I love finding just the right fabric for a project, making sure the scale and size of the print is perfect. I am a perfectionist about quality workmanship in everything I sew. I hope that my products will make people happy and that they will be saved as heirlooms for future generations.
