About

Will Paint for Shoes (and cute vintage stuff)

I've been an artist all my life, but I've only recently begun to call myself one. I opened my Etsy shop in 2009, the same year I finished my graduate program in painting. As a woman of widely varied interests, I create art inspired by subjects ranging from fashion to current events to green design.

I have three main bodies of work: Post-Consumerism, Recessionism, and The Doll Project. Post-Consumerism utilizes found objects and non-toxic paints and adhesives to create sumptuous abstract compositions in provocative colors. In addition to selling the work I currently have on display on Etsy, I am also happy to create a custom piece for you in the textures and colors of your choice. Recessionism was inspired by the financial crisis of 2008, and uses shredded money (U.S. dollars) as a symbol of the unstable economy. The Doll Project uses fashion dolls, particularly Barbie dolls, to embody the negative messages our society gives women and girls about their physical appearance.

Please note that The Doll Project is no longer for sale on Etsy. I am now selling my photos on Society6, where you can have them custom printed at the size of your choice, and even have them framed. See the Doll Project in its new online home at this url: http://society6.com/TiffanyGholar

From time to time I also work on other projects, including crafts like home décor items or jewelry utilizing repurposed materials. They will also be available in this shop. And when I have too much of a good thing at my studio, I will sell my extra art supplies here too.

My hope is that I will provide my Etsy customers with a pleasant shopping experience. I know it can be hard to get a complete sense of what a painting looks like from a digital photo online, so you may want to view my work in person instead. You are welcome to come to one of my open studio events, which are typically held the second Friday of each month in my studio at the Fine Arts Building in Chicago. See my website, www.TiffanyGholar.com/art, for details on upcoming shows.

I'm hoping that selling my work will help my studio pay for itself so I can go shopping on Etsy! :)
