About

Glass- It's all I think about!

From the time I get up until the time I go to sleep, it's all I think about. Glass is an amazing medium that can be worked in at room temperature, warmed in a kiln, or heated by a torch and the end result is always something beautiful! Maybe one day I will gather the courage to make my hobby my full time job.....

Let's learn a little bit about what you see in my shop, shall we?

Dichroic Glass (pronounced dye-crow-ick)

Dichroic means ''two colored'' and is derived from the Greek words “di” for two, and “chroma” for color. When light passes THROUGH the glass you will see one color, and when it reflects OFF of the glass you will see another. When you look at this glass, it appears to have more than one color at the same time, much like a soap bubble or an oil film on water.

NASA developed dichroic glass for use in satellite mirrors in the early 1990s.The process involves vaporizing quartz crystal and metallic oxides, such as magnesium or titanium. Once it is vaporized into floating dust, it settles on and coats the surface of hot glass inside an airless vacuum chamber. The complete process may require from 15 to 45 different layers totaling in a width that is smaller than a human hair.

In our world today, the technology is used on filters for screening 3D movies and can also be found on camera lenses and car mirrors.

The jewelry from TN Glass Stains is made by layering together several very thin sheets of this coated glass. It is then fused together into one solid piece by firing in a kiln up to 1500 degrees. Each piece is shaped by hand and kiln fired again to polish the edges. Jewelry that has an image requires a third firing to set the image permanently into the glass so it does not wear, flake, or fade.

About the Artist- I have been fascinated with glass for years and started creating on my own in 2003. I first started working in cold glass, making stained glass window panels.

In 2007 I discovered the magic of dichroic and the world of fusing. I have been hopelessly hooked ever since.

All items are individually handmade by the artist.

Come on in...Enter the world of dazzling dichroic glass jewelry at Tennessee Glass Stains!

All jewelry comes with a choker and is snuggled in an attractive recycled material gift box. If some lucky person may be getting a pendant as a gift, I will happily send a note on your behalf. Simply jot your sentiments in the Notes section at checkout.

Pendants come with a 16-18" black choker or 16" silver plated snake chain. Please state your preference in the Notes section of the shopping cart PRIOR TO checking out. If no preference is noted, the item will be shipped with the choker shown in the item photo.

Pendants are mounted to either a sterling silver or gold plated bail of high quality that will endure constant wear.

Every piece of glass that comes out of the kiln has been properly heated and cooled to ensure long lasting durability and years of enjoyment.

Glass can be especially hard to photograph. I do not enhance the colors of the glass in any manner. What you see is what my camera sees. Please note that your monitor may vary slightly in color.

No camera can truly capture the brilliance of dichroic glass and all pieces will be more beautiful in hand.

Thank you for spending some time in my world!
