About toadstoolillustrates

I can't stop making things!

Toadstool Illustrates is a collective created by Canadian Transgender artist Joey Dean producing magical feminist stickers, zines, pins, patches and other apparel inspired by Gay Love, struggles with mental health, witchcraft, and being on the Internet.

From his small bedroom studio, Joey draws in several different styles using bold strokes and soft colour pallets. The majority of his work uses crisp black lines and elements from traditional tattoo art and LGBTQ+ culture. Joey specializes in digital portraiture, humans and animals, for personal and professional use.

“I have been an artist for 6 years working in illustration as well as painting with acrylics and watercolours. I also love working with clay and ink, but not at the same time. I often participate in local markets across the GTA selling my patches, stickers and apparel.

After getting into zine culture, I wanted to start putting together and distributing my own zines. I have also dabbled in selling my artwork and prints through distributors and have decided I would rather do what is in my realms of capability and sell what I can with my own two hands.”

When I’m not doing art or working on my business I can be found playing bass guitar in a glamorous baseball cap or playing video games with my partner, roommate, and our 3 cats.
