Great customer service, timely shipping, and well-packaged. The paper was a little thinner than ideal for postcards going through the mail, but I really love these subtle, minimalist watercolor prints! Thanks!

About

Temples: Modern, Simple, Symbolic

This Shop is an extension of my main shop, Turn-of-the-Centuries (TOTC) which is focused on Architectural Map-Drawings that depict beloved, meaningful places. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, temples have sweet and symbolic meaning for me and for many of my friends. A friend commissioned me to draw the Washington DC temple to adorn the entry hall of her new home after seeing a sketch I made of the temple on my wedding announcements. So, I began experimenting with ink pen and watercolor. My experiments grew into a large proportion of prints and original drawings in my etsy shop. With almost 160 LDS temples, and my attempts to render them each as prints, drawings, watercolor and note cards, I knew I'd need room to expand. So, TOTC Temples was born.

In representing temples, I try to distill the essential characteristics of the architecture and landscape and present them in a simple, modern, and very soft image. I hope they present "quiet force." They are not garish portrayals, through the architecture in many is quite stunning and even ground-breaking. Presented in this soft and simple manner, their force is apparent in the drama of the white temple against the balance of the scene, rendered in watercolor or ink. Like a solid-void drawing, each temple is surrounded by its natural context in color (or ink line) which forces the void, the white of the paper unrendered, The Temple, to stand out. I hope this representation gives life to the symbolism of temples as they, and the covenants made therein allow us to, Stand Out and imbue our lives with meaning.
