Announcement   Welcome to my Totem Color Blocks collection, a meditation on the power of color and the beauty of wood. Using hand formed reclaimed wood, these pieces are inspired by dramatic landscapes and historical art color theories. The purity and graphic nature of the forms captures a tribal aesthetic and communicates a contemporary folk sensibility while honoring nature.

I design, saw from raw reclaimed wood (not unsustainable wood from China), drill, sand and paint each piece. My paints are mixed with pure powder pigments for vibrant saturated color and visual intensity.

About

\ˈtō-təm\ A venerated emblem or revered symbol

After receiving my BFA in architectural history and sculpture I worked at several museums and art institutions in exhibitions and curation and for more than ten years now I've been working in fine art object conservation for museums and private art collectors.

The color combinations I use are mostly derived from distilling down the essential hues of landscapes. I also interpret and incorporate art historical color theories and movements. Native tribal crafts and structures inspire me as well. The visual simplicity and linearity of my work expresses my love of clarity in all things with a focused, reflective sensibility.

Designing these totem pieces is a meditative and rewarding practice and taps into my hypersensitivity to the dynamics and power of color. This is combined with my deep respect and admiration for nature, trees and wood work which I acquired while growing up in a forest in Northern Wisconsin.
