Announcement   Gifts for Cyclists.
At Tread & Pedals we love bicycles, so much we think they deserve a second life.
Riding bikes since we were kids upcycling them since 2011.

Tread & Pedals is a Melbourne (Australia) based creative duo who handcraft all their products using bicycle parts that would otherwise end up in landfill.

We (Ivan and Em) create jewellery, interior and exterior wares and accessories through re-purposing old bicycle parts. We love taking a punctured bike inner tube, cog or a wonky wheel and turning it into something quirky through crafting it and recycling it in an unexpected way.

Melbourne, thanks for a wheelie beautiful Autumn day. We've had a busy day making, packing and shipping our wares. Lots of beauties headed to new homes today, like this one which is headed to California.
Back in our happy place (the workshop) and on the tools today - clean, weld, polish, repeat... with a few coffee sips between. wink
On the workbench today - we're making a bunch of our Bike Bottle Openers. Made entirely from recycled bike parts these beauties make a brilliant gift for cyclists and lovers of beer.

About

The Recycled Bicycle

At Tread & Pedals we care about the environment and the impact that we have on it. We (Em and Ivan) handcraft up-cycled products using bicycle parts that we source from local bike stores that would otherwise end up in landfill.

We love taking something like a punctured bicycle inner tube, a cog or a wonky wheel and turning it into something quirky through crafting it and re-cycling it in an unexpected way.

We’ve always been resourceful and been a tad thrifty - guess that has come through not having a money tree but it is also because of the environmental aspects. The words Reduce, Reuse, Recycle have always been big in our house.

Tread & Pedals was born when Ivan was working as workshop manager in a large Melbourne bike store. We were amazed with the amount of bicycle parts that went straight to landfill. It was shocking to think about the quantity of waste produced by what we’d always thought of as a sustainable form of transport. We decided to try and make something of this so called trash. Ivan ventured off into the “Man Cave” and emerged with a bottle opener made from a cog and chain… now we find ourselves looking at bikes in a whole new way.

When we are not riding our bikes you'll find us tinkering away in our little home amongst the Eucalypts. We manipulate the metals through soldering, hammering, twisting, heat treating and sculpting them into various forms making the jewellery and home wares – spoke bangles, candlesticks, cufflinks, wheel and cog clocks, light fittings, tables... The bike tube we hand cut with a scalpel into feathered forms, leafy shapes and other designs inspired by nature. Bicycle inner tube is a wonderfully tactile medium to work with; it has the look of leather, is light as a feather, very soft to touch, waterproof and durable.

Thanks for stopping by and for reading our little shops tale.

Tread & Pedals was born when Ivan was working as workshop manager in a large Melbourne bike store. Amazed with the amount of bike parts that went straight to the tip Ivan and Em decided to try and make something of this so called trash and started looking at the bike parts in a totally different way. The pair began re-purposing the parts into unique, fun and functional designs. The perfect pairing of Em's arts background and Ivan's background in engineering (and the couples shared passion for bicycles) results in beautifully designed and well constructed pieces that are built to last the test of time, and express their passion for cycling - creating unique gifts for cyclists.
