Hi, my name is Bernita. I come from a family of craftsman and artists. My father could draw and paint like no one’s business but, rarely did. He felt he wasn’t good enough. Oh, how wrong he was. He instead did more woodworking than anything.

My mother sewed, knitted, crocheted, did embroidery and needlepoint. At an early age she showed me how to knit and crochet, but I had really no interest in doing it. She didn’t give up though. She went on to teach me embroidery which I picked up very quickly. I then learned crewel work and needlepoint. I loved how relaxing the work was. I made lots of pictures for myself, family and friends.

I eventually moved on to other crafts, trying all kinds of different mediums, jewelry making, decorative painting, making wreaths and floral arrangements. A year before making that life changing move I knew I wanted to continue working for myself.

I started researching online and this is when I came across tutorials and training on wreath making and how to sell them online I was elated and really started to believe maybe I could do what I loved and people would want to buy it.

I learned so much and opened my first Etsy shop. I was actually selling my wreaths online..Woo Hoo…
I became a caretaker after my mom fell and broke her leg. I wasn’t able to work on wreaths for some time. I knew then I needed to find something to make and sell that didn’t require much space for creating and little inventory.

I took to searching Etsy and came across Book Folding. I loved it! I was really drawn to it but intimidated by it. It looked complicated. I searched youtube and found tutorials. I located patterns and started practicing, a lot! Strangely, I found it very relaxing, which was very helpful with the stress I was under as a caretaker.

As my folding improved, I felt more confident and saw the potential for this unique art. It wasn’t long and I was ready to open Trestle Glen Treasures on Etsy. I find making book art very gratifying. There is so much room for personalization, so it creates a lot of variety.

I love working with people to help them give their friends and loved ones a very special and different kind of gift.
