About TsundokuGifts

Sales 819
On Etsy since 2019

Hi there! My name is Raquel, and I live in Trofa, Portugal. Welcome to my little shop.

Since I was a little girl I wanted to be an artist, draw and explore a little of everything in the art world, but drawing was really something I really enjoyed, and painting! Which led me to take my degree at the College of Fine Arts. However when I finished it I was not sure what to do. So very briefly, after spending a few years studying Japanese culture, I created a shop at etsy called Retro Attic Gifts, which explores traditional Japanese culture and its origami.
But do you know what helped me paint? my colleague said it was strange music and you didn't even know what they were saying ... k-pop (and k-indie too) but I had so much energy to hear that it was really something that helped me with concentration and with the passing days.

In 2018 I made some drawings of monsta-x and of the exo to give at Christmas (I am even ashamed to look at them ... because they were really primary) however I thought "I can do better than this" and I made so many, but so many until I get what I see now. And yet I feel that I get better with every illustration made.
So in 2019 I opened the store and here I am!

Hope you like it!

But do you know what Tsundoku means? Well I'm a big fan of Japanese art as I said so ... In japan we have a word that is more like and action, if I can call that, basically it means is acquiring books but letting them pile up in one's home without reading them, bacause that will bring joy to you. (and it does :D )

The term originated in the Meiji era (1868–1912) as Japanese slang. It combines elements of tsunde-oku, to pile things up ready for later and leave) and dokusho (reading books). It is also used to refer to books ready for reading later when they are on a bookshelf.
But why the name? well It was supost to be a bookmark store but now have so many diferent things XD
