The first thing I will say is how IMPRESSED I am with the dress. It is simply beautiful and extremely well-made. I had high expectations already but Shelia and her team EXCEEDED them. This has been my dream Ariel dress since I was four years old, so now in a REAL dream I own the REAL thing! The blue skirt is wonderfully full - I can pick it up and hold it out on both sides in a wide curtsy - and the bodice fits beautifully around my waist and body. Amazing, considering all I did was provide my measurements! I am wearing this for my 21st and cannot wait!!! Thank you so much!!!!

About

We love costumes! And everything we do is made in the USA.

I started studying costume design in college. I moved on to costume history/museum studies in graduate school, and I worked in theatrical costume shops for years. Now I own a custom sewing shop in St. Paul, MN. My passion is costumes, and my specialties are historically accurate period costumes, as well as ethnic/folk dress. We also do character costumes and formal wear, including wedding and prom dresses.

I lived and worked in Vienna, Austria for about three years and learned a lot about folk costumes there. I sell a lot of dirndls, as well as folk costumes from other European countries. Karen, our main stitcher, is also an expert on Norwegian folk dress.

I try to ensure that everything I sell is comfortable and well made. Most of what I sell is made with good quality, machine washable materials and meant to be worn again and again. Seams are enclosed or serged. We use industrial machines (including the serger) and I generally make my own patterns. It is made in a clean, smoke-free, pet-free sewing shop (not anyone's home).

Everything we make can be changed to fit your needs at no extra cost - different colors, lengths, styles, fabrics, etc. You can also find your own fabric and ship it to me. Please contact me with your specifications - I can make anything out of fabric for people of any size! Unlike most sellers on etsy, we make our own patterns from scratch - which means we welcome customers of any size (including children and plus sizes).

I also do museum quality vintage restoration and reproductions. Don't confine yourself to what you see on the rack! If you love something and it doesn't fit, let me know and we'll see what we can do!

While this is what I do for a living, it is also a joy - I am not in it to fleece my customers. Our prices are kept as low as possible to accommodate your budget. I am happy to discuss changes in style or materials that may lower the cost to you. From what I've seen on etsy, we have the most reasonable prices of any shop in the US that provides the same quality standard. If you find things significantly cheaper, please note that there is probably a reason (foreign/underpaid labor or poor quality fabrics and construction).

Sheila is the designer and owner. She does the customer service and initial consults, purchasing, cutting, and about half of the sewing. Karen is our most regular stitcher. We also have a couple of other overhire stitchers who help out now and then with large orders and during the Halloween rush.

    Stitcher

Karen is our most regular stitcher (seamstress). She spent decades working with the SCA. She spends most of her time with us machine sewing but she's also very good with less traditional costumes like armor, foam, wire, fairy wings, animals, etc.

  • Amy

    Stitcher

Amy is a freelance costume designer for theater in the Twin Cities area. She recently started helping us out as a stitcher during her down time.

We try to keep our prices as low as possible while making clothing of the highest possible quality. Please contact us if you'd like price-lowering options. I don't like to cut corners, but sometimes a cheaper material or a slightly different style choice can lower the cost to you.

Payment
We accept credit cards and PayPal. Please let us know if this is not your preferred method - we can consider other options, but we will not ship an item until it has been paid for. Payment plans or installments are available.
Shipping
We use Priority Mail, which includes a tracking number, for domestic shipping. Items usually arrive in two business days, sometimes three. We will provide faster shipping at an additional cost. The only way the Post Office will officially guarantee anything by a certain date is by using express mail which is usually more than double the price.

International items are shipped using first class mail, which keeps the cost as low as possible for you. However, this does not come with a tracking number and is not guaranteed. We find that things usually arrive in Europe or Australia in 1-2 weeks though we can't promise that will always be the case. You are responsible for any customs fees.

We are willing to ship international items using Priority Mail instead (with a tracking number and a ten day guarantee). However, please note that that guarantee is provisional - it will arrive in the country within 10 business days but it could sit in customs for weeks after that. The cost is often twice as much, and we find that in reality it is not faster. We have no control over what happens to these items after they leave the US but we have never had a problem with an international shipment.
Refunds and Exchanges
We do not provide refunds for custom made items, but we will do alterations if you ship it back to us. If you are unsure whether a pre-made item will fit you, please contact us and we'll provide you with detailed measurements. We will accept returns on pre-made items, but we do not pay return shipping.

We cannot 100% guarantee a perfect fit without an in-person physical fitting. We can ask you for a list of detailed measurements that will result in the best fit possible without fittings - our customers are generally very happy with the way things fit but how well it fits depends largely on how accurate your measurement taking is. We make all our patterns from scratch using measurements you provide, but every body is different and there's no way to promise perfection without a physical body to try things on. We will do basic alterations on any of our ready-made items to fit your measurements if you provide them. We will also provide a mock-up of fitted bodices for custom items at no cost to you - however, this takes extra time as it needs to ship to you and back, and you are responsible for the cost of getting it back to us. Please contact us if you have questions.

If an item does not reach you because of shipping problems: 100% refunds are available for lost or damaged items shipped using Priority Mail, but not for items sent internationally by first class mail. We have shipped hundreds of items and never had anything lost in the mail, though occasionally it takes longer than the estimated ship time.
Additional policies and FAQs
We love custom orders - we'll change anything you like from style and cut to size and fabric. You can also choose your own fabric and send it to us, or show us a picture and have us replicate an item. Everything we sell is made in the USA by employees making a fair wage. We work in a commercial costume shop space, not a home. It is completely smoke and pet free.
