Very beautiful bowl - I bought it as a gift and now I want one myself! It also smells wonderful. Shipping was extremely quick considering the distance. Thanks!

About

Step by step for making a small olive wood spoon

Step 1: Selecting the Wood

I want to make spoons from woods hard enough to stand up to the job they do, olive wood is hard enough for any kitchen spoon and fairly easy to carve. The olive wood grain is very beautiful. Next I decide which side of my piece of wood is the top of the spoon.

Step 2: Choosing a pattern

There are so many different types of wooden spoons. Some have long handles and deep bowls. Handles can be flat or round or a combination of the two. So I choose the pattern and I I draw it on the slab of wood.

Step 3: Cut out the pattern

Now it's time to cut away all that excess wood from around the pattern I drew on the slab of wood. I can do this quickly with an electric band or scroll saw, or I can use a hand held "people powered" saw.

Step 4: Carving the bowl of the spoon

By now the spoon is beginning to take shape. I draw a pencil line around the outside edge of the bowl. Next I start carving the bowl with the machine (see photos attached).

Step 5: Sanding the spoon

I like my wooden spoons smooth as glass. Begin rough sanding with an 80 grit sand paper all over the bowl, back and handle, and then take up a 100 grit sand paper and do the same thing; then drop to a 120 grit; followed by 150 grit; 220 grit and finally some fine 400 grit.

Step 6: A Finish for the spoon

I finish all my olive wood utensils with olive oil.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay with my Credit / Debit Card (Visa, Mastercard,AMEX...)

Yes sure, visit our new website: https:\\www.zitounawood.com

How do you take care of olive wood?

To clean or wash your olivewood products do so only by hand and with warm water and soap. Never submerge in water and do not put items in the dishwasher. After drying naturally the wood may look dull – and a little like it is losing its grain – but this can be corrected with simple olive oil.

Is olive wood hard?

Olive wood is very hard, strong and durable. It is deep brown in color with strong, oil-like grain patterns that are a beautiful distinguishing feature: no two olive wood products are identical. In addition, olive wood has natural antibacterial properties.
