Supporting Orphans and HIV/AIDS Positive Women in Uganda
The Twerwaneho Orphans Community Initiative (TOCI) is a community based organization that support orphans and children with disabilities in Western Uganda. TOCI was started by Micheal Amanyire, a local teacher who noticed that children were not attending school. After some investigation, he realized that many of these children were orphans or children with disabilities. Micheal started TOCI to assist these vulnerable children in education, basic needs, and learning life skills to help them live happy, sustainable lives.
Today, TOCI supports over 100 vulnerable children in Uganda. TOCI has also helped the local community gain access to clean water, improve their monthly income by 30%, and gain business skills.
TOCI works with women with HIV/AIDS to provide these crafts on Etsy. Each item is lovingly made by a local woman with local materials. With TOCI's help, these women have now broadened their market (to bring you amazing crafts) and increased their income to support their families. All proceeds from craft sales go to supporting the vulnerable children in education and scholastic materials. Education is the way out of poverty for these children and YOU can help.
Thank you for supporting TOCI here on Etsy!
I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer from Uganda and am working to help orphaned children and those with disabilities. Since 2011, I have been working with a small non-profit TOCI ("Toh-chi") to support the children and families in Western Uganda.
Twerwaneho (pronounced "Twer-wan-eh-ho") means to work hard for ourselves and that is what I hope to teach the children here in Uganda, to work hard for themselves and then to help others. I believe in crafting empowerment and the proceeds of my craft are being donated to helping the local children.
Please support me in my effort to help the children!
