I believe in second chances.

I have a large collection of vintage loveliness, some of which is repurposed into something new and some I sell as is.

So whether you call it recycling, upcycling, repurposing or reusing - I'm a fan. I have a passion for vintage and industrial items and am constantly amazed by the creativity of others.

I wouldn't call myself an artist. Ever. I just like to collect stuff, make stuff, share stuff. It's fun. And it makes me happy. I hope I can make you smile.

About

twice designs - vintage aesthetics for a modern era.

I have a background in feature writing but I've done fundraising work, journalism, film reviewing and I should be working on my novel right now... But I've always loved to tinker, make and collect.

THEN
I began twice designs after I had my third child and took a break from paid employment. It started off with handmade cards, painstakingly assembled - each card had an insert so it could be used 'twice'. It was fun and creative but expensive and cost more than I made! I also began increasing my collection of vintage ephemera; maps, playing cards, Scrabble games, buttons etc.

NOW
I still make cards and thoroughly enjoy the process. Because I'm a writer with a dangerous addiction to wordplay my cards are pretty wordy. They are deliberately humorous and whimsical and I do love making people smile and laugh.
I now design my cards in Photoshop and have them printed on recycled card stock. I score and fold them but having them printed in bulk saves time and money.

I also share my vintage collections with my customers. As a devotee of pre computer age graphics I am slightly obsessed with vintage illustrations and the incidental beauty of things like advertisements, playing cards, games, packaging, blotters, crate labels. An essential part of twice designs is looking at things differently - seeing and enjoying beauty and enabling my customers to experience the same joy.

I frequently "go hunting" with special requests for customers and love being able to help procure the perfect gift.

Hello! welcome to twice designs. My name is sarah barnett and I sell greeting cards (made with recycled paper) designed by me and vintage lovely things designed by someone far cleverer than me.
If you want to catch all this goodness in the flesh (as it were) I do the Canberra Handmade Market (and a few others).
I hope you enjoy your fix of vintage whimsy and if there's something you're looking for - a map to a particular place, a custom order, please let me know and I'll try to make it happen.
I believe in second chances. That's my life philosophy. So recycling, recontextualising, repurposing - love it.
And, of course, as humans we make mistakes. We all need forgiveness and redemption. That's what makes me tick.
