I had the best time creating these beautiful OOAK creations for a fantastic customer! They were inspired by my pastel rainbow gemstone necklace. Each necklace I make like this is completely unique and the possibilities are endless!
Took a road trip to dig for herkimer diamonds this week! So much fun!! gemheart

Just a girl, some beads, some time, and a couple cats under foot.

Twobadcats started as a way to feed my own jewelry addiction. I like to play with shiny things. Maybe someone out there would like to buy one of my shiny things, thereby giving me a few more dollars to -yep- buy more shiny-thing-making supplies. It was always a fun hobby.

Then things got real. After becoming a mom, I chose to leave my full-time job in order to stay home with my son. While this was absolutely the best decision I ever made, something got lost in the transition: Me. I felt as though I had lost my identity as a creative individual. As my son grew and we settled into a routine, I began to see little chunks of time that, if I really disciplined myself, I could use to reclaim my creativity. Afternoon nap time became crafting time. Thus, this shop was created, in small steps, about two hours at a time.

It begins with finding materials that I like. The stones must "speak" to me; inspire me. Then I work on creating a design. If I like a particular creation, I will recreate the same design over and over with different components. However, I don't create pieces in bulk. I will tell you for certain in each listing whether the item you're purchasing is something that I can make multiples of, or if it is a one-and-done creation.

I enjoy every aspect of this endeavor. The step-by-step process of finding materials, putting them together in just the right way, capturing them in photos, writing a description and curating a shop. It is immensely satisfying to send a creation to a far-flung locale and know that I made it. There's a little piece of me, out there. How cool is that? I feel that it's getting more and more difficult to find truly handmade items out there in the world. I take immense pride in knowing that everything in my shop was made by me, and me alone. I hope you'll find something in the shop that speaks to you!

That's me! Perpetual artist, mommy, wife, regular gal. When I'm not working on my shop, I'm probably driving around town looking for misspelled store signs. Or watching the birds outside my kitchen windows, just like the bad cats.

    Bad Cat #2

Yeah. She's really that ridiculous. She's helpful at batting around the loose beads that I might drop.

  • Ike

    Bad Cat #1

He's also very helpful at batting around any loose beads that might roll away. And a suitable lap warmer.
