I loved the blush color, it was just what I was hoping for. The lavender was very bright colored, not at all like the photo. I was hoping it would be more of a pastel. Gauze is a good quality and good sized. My only real complaint is that they arrrived heavily scented from some kind of detergent. It took 4 washes to get the scent out. Baby items should only be washed in baby detergent or hypo allergenic/free & clear detergents. Thank you for the speedy delivery and well made handmade product.
A series of sewing machines...
What is now Farmhouse Made began what feels like forever ago, in my childhood home circa 2000. Long before that, I made a few things like scrunchies with cows on them, funny little tote bags, and some (very) ill fitting clothes.
I learned most of what I know about sewing from my mom, my mom-mom & my great granny, and I learned to sew on a vintage Singer sewing machine. You know, the iron kind with the knee pedal that's set in furniture. That's the one. I remember making a million things on that thing before it finally stopped working - and I then moved up to a not-so-portable portable sewing machine that had the worst temperament. I cursed that machine to no end. I was sewing on that thing for years and years, until I was blessed with a real machine and I learned to love zippers and button holes.
I began selling one of a kind purses on Etsy in 2008 with this sewing machine and have upgraded the old girl since. With each sewing machine, I learn new things, and think about each project and what'd be different if I were sewing on my first machine. Each one brings new opportunities, ideas and inspiration.
This shop has certainly evolved with time and machine, from crafting one of a kind purses to creating accessories for baby, kid and toddler boys + girls, and mom + dad. Many of my orders come from folks going to a baby shower, buying a gift for a new baby, or birthday gifts... knowing these items are thoughtful and one of a kind in the mix of gifts, really makes me (and I'm sure everyone else!) smile.
What you see in the shop is handmade and designed in my studio in Sadsburyville, Pennsylvania. Each new idea is made and tested on my own three kids, niece, nephew and my friends' new little ones, as well as myself, and I've probably written a blog post about it too. Thank you so much for stopping by to read a little more and for supporting the handmade community!
