    About ultravioletvintage

    Sales 547
    On Etsy since 2007

I was bitten by the vintage bug early on!

I started pursuing my love of antiques and vintage clothing in my teens when my best friends Mom introduced me to the wonderful world of thrifting! My Mom would chuckle at some of my "get-ups" particularly when I showed up after one shopping adventure in a lovely albeit very bright magenta wool 60's coat with 3/4 sleeves! She eventually came around though and enjoyed checking out my finds.

My humble beginnings as an entrepreneur included "picking" for local shops, selling at flea markets and out of a small booth at a quirky little vintage and thrift shop then sharing a tiny retail space with a friend. Eventually, I joined forces with my self-proclaimed soul sister and founder of a shop called Urban Artifacts. Over the next 10 years we combined our talents for mixing antiques and vintage clothing with local art and handmade goods creating a fun shopping destination for both Richmonders and out of towners alike.

Since the closing of Urban Artifacts in 2008 I decided to try my hand at selling online. I started out on Ebay and moved to Etsy after deciding that it was a much better fit for me and what I was doing. As well as selling vintage I also make jewelry with antique, vintage, and found objects I come across in my travels under the name of Half Past Noon so, selling on Etsy just made sense.

And now, as of May 2017, I am excited to announce that I am the new owner of Halcyon Vintage Clothing, a Richmond favorite since 1983!

Sizing of vintage clothing is different than modern clothing. Please do not go by the numbered size but by the measurements provided to get the perfect fit. You can avoid being disappointed by carefully comparing my measurements to an item in your closet with a similar shape & style and / or you can measure yourself.
Sometimes vintage clothing will have seam and hem allowances enabling your garment to be altered for a better fit. Please convo me if you have any inquiries regarding a specific garment.

To measure yourself for best fit, use a cloth tape measure, which you can get at your local fabric store and, measure yourself wearing just your normal undergarments.

BUST or CHEST: Measure starting from one armpit wrap around your shoulder blades to other armpit over the fullest part of your bust / chest.

UNDERBUST (Empire waist) : Measure around the fullest part of your ribcage, about midway between your bust and waist.

WAIST: Measure around your natural waistline, the smallest point of your waist and don't suck your waist in.

HIP: Measure at the widest point starting at one hip wrapping around to the other hip. Make sure the tape is over the largest part of your buttocks. This is usually about 8"-9" below your waist.

SHOULDER TO WAIST: Measure from the top of the shoulder where the shoulder seam would lie, down over the bust to your waist.

INSEAM: This is the measurement for leg length on pants. While you’re wearing a pair of pants, have a friend stretch the tape from your crotch to the bottom of your ankle. Or, measure the inseam of a pair of pants that fit you well from the crotch to the hem.

LENGTH: Measure from the top of your shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lie, down the front, to the point you want the garment to end at the hem.

SLEEVE LENGTH: Measure from the middle of the back of the neck to the inside of your wrist.

Please note that I do my best to describe my pieces accurately but, since all of the items I sell are vintage there may be minor wear due to the fact that they have been previously loved. Please convo me if you have any questions or concerns before making your purchase.
