About

Moving in the direction of new beginnings for 2016

My years of selling on e-commerce have been an interesting and a rewarding experience. The education I have received from Etsy and the people I have met on this site has been invaluable. My shop has evolved over the years from my desktop computer to mobile devices at a really fast pace that has kept me on my toes. During all these changes I have honed in on my passion for vintage items that are fun, unique and remind me of my 1960 childhood years in Florida. I reflect on a simpler time when the Golden Rule was taught in Sunday School and in Elementary School, "treat others as you would want to be treated". This motto still works for me today. Oh, and naps every afternoon are a great idea!

The Beginning; In 2004, Craig and I aka; umeone, began a quest to collect items from my Parents famous Polynesian restaurant, The Kahiki Supper Club. The hunt for vintage items from the early days of the Kahiki awoke my passion for antique treasure hunting. The Kahiki opened in Columbus, Ohio in 1961. The Kahiki was sold in 1978 and sadly met its demise in 2000, being torn down for a Walgreen's. Our journey brought us and our collection back to Columbus, Ohio and our tribute came to life out of the ashes (well, boxes) in our basement. I started recreating some of my Mother's restaurant mug designs from the Kahiki and from there my own designs out of clay. As I sold a few, I found Etsy and before I knew what happened I was in business with a Shop called umeone!

Being raised in a service industry has made Customer Service a priority for me. My practice is to treat every Customer as I would want to be treated. I strive to make your Shopping experience as pleasurable as possible so that you will want to come back and visit umeone.

"They don't make things like they use to." I've always loved Antiques and the quality craftsmanship that made ordinary items an art form. I love the feel I get from an item that was made to last, meant to be used and kept for generations. Selling Vintage Treasures in my Shop was seamless and a natural progression for me, I'm drawn to an item, see it's beauty, feel its spirit, take great joy in saving it and finding it a renewed purpose and/or home.

Although the challenges have been many I am totally enjoying every step of the way. I wonder what wonderful beach I will end up on...
