Announcement   I'll be at the Constance Bay Community Market every second Saturday from June 17th to August 12th, and every Saturday from September 9th to 30th. Come out and join us at 205 Bayview Drive in Constance Bay between 9 am and 2 pm. It's a great market and always lots of fun.

I make jewellery, home decor and beauty items to bring magic into your life. Everything I make is part of my philosophy of finding magic in everyday things. I use whatever inspires me -- gemstones, wire, cork, herbs grown in my garden, recycled glass, paint and occasionally (maybe more than occasionally) glitter. Don't worry, it won't come off and be hard to vacuum up.

Almost anything you see here can be customized, and I can work with you to create something that inspires magic just for you.

If you live in the Ottawa, Canada area or in the Ottawa Valley and would like to arrange to pick up your order please contact me.

Updates

Hours of picture taking this weekend with my DIY lightbox and homemade light stands. This copper wrapped iridescent marble necklace (along with a bunch of other new listings) is available in my shop now.
Decided to take pictures outside today. It was a little bit cold. See the snow on the table?

About

From hoarding corks to seeking magic ... an ongoing journey

It started when my youngest son was in grade 3. His teacher was having the class make reindeer ornaments out of wine corks around Christmas time and a note was sent home asking parents to send in any wine corks they had to help the class out with this project. My first thought after reading that note: "If I'd known they needed wine corks, I would have saved them. I could have outfitted the whole class. Actually, I could have outfitted the whole school." So I started saving wine corks that day, and I haven't thrown a cork away since. I even save the corks from the wine we order at restaurants. I went through a bit of a wine drinking phase -- what's a single mother with two young kids to do? That day was over 6 years ago, and now both of my kids are teenagers. While I don't drink so much wine anymore, I ended up accumulating several buckets worth of corks, and one day decided that maybe I could do something with them. From there, the floating wine cork key chain was born.

Sometimes, a few things converge and set you on a path that you never expected. In my case, it was Halloween, magic and wine corks.

I was born on Halloween, and have a love for all things Halloween related. Especially magic. And by magic I mean all forms of magic -- the idea of spells and potions and Harry Potter and vampires and all of that -- but also the magic that exists every day, just waiting for us to see it. There's magic in the colour of the sky on a winter evening, in being able to watch the bunny eat dandelions in your backyard, or even in the way a little bit of oil or gas makes a rainbow on the dark pavement in a parking lot. Life has brought me a lot of twists and turns, some of them pretty crazy, just as it has for most people. So a few years ago, I decided to start cultivating magic in my life everyday.

Really, it started with the corks, but at the time I didn't know it. The corks lead to experiments with making my own Halloween decorations -- especially potion bottles and spell books. Which lead to experiments with decorative wine bottles. And that somehow lead to crystals and beads and jewellery. I'm sure it will eventually take me somewhere else.

Originally, the name Uncorked & Bottled Up was kind of an obvious reflection of what I was making. I made things with corks and bottles, for the most part. It wasn't long until I realized that it was pretty much a metaphor for life too. I feel like I spend half my life uncorked and the other half bottled up. Making things helps channel all of that and bring magic into every day.

Everything I make connects me to that every day magic somehow -- from the choice of stone for a key chain, to weaving a family tree of life from wire, to creating an actual spell book or potion bottle necklace. My hope is that these things will help you find magic every day too.

Frequently asked questions

Gift wrapping and packaging

Items are packaged to minimize weight (and shipping costs) and ensure your order arrives in excellent condition. The type of packaging will be detailed on the item listing.

If you prefer a different type of packaging please contact me to make arrangements and for a shipping quote.

I'm happy to provide gift wrapping and a note for items purchased as a gift.

Custom and personalised orders

I take custom orders! Almost anything you see in the shop can be custom made to meet your needs -- size, colour, chain length -- so please don't hesitate to ask. Turn around time on custom orders will depend on the size and complexity of the item and whether I have the supplies on hand. When you request a custom piece, we will work together to find a time frame and cost that meets your needs.

A love note about shipping

I ship from Canada.

Shipping within Canada tends to be expensive. Where possible, I ship small items such as pendants and earrings in a padded mailer via Canada Post Lettermail to keep shipping costs as low as possible. Shipping upgrades are offered on some items.

Outside of Canada: By default, I will ship Small Packet Air.

Default shipping does not include tracking. If you would like tracking, please choose a shipping upgrade.

Shipping times for all locations are between 2 & 10 days, but sometimes mail is slower than expected, particularly when delayed in customs. As such, I cannot guarantee delivery times.

Any applicable taxes or duties assessed in customs are to be paid by the buyer.
